I'm in unfamiliar territory with this one. My children have some friends who, over the last few days, have been sharing their food with us as part of ramadan - I've been told that as a westerner it is possibly one of the best compliments they could have paid me and my children. Kind of an acceptance thing, which is awesome! I would really like to buy the children a little something for Eid, as a way of saying thankyou for thinking of us, but I have no idea. What sort of things do you think would be suitable? I really don't want to mess this up!

Its always been traditional to give money to children.
However, these days too its alot common to buy children what they like, just like Christmas..its usually toys (lol, only now adays they want expensive ones)..its entirely up to YOU..something that comes from you and from within the heart.

Id say toys are popular with the younger children.

Eid promises are somewhat purely promises. Is there something your human beings somewhat like? the terrific presents many times have a minimum of a sort of features A.) they're something useful ( like a e book or gadget, clothing) B.) they have some meaning to the guy you're giving them too ( lower back, an e book might desire to artwork, or some prayer beads) C.) The giver and receivers are extremely joyful on the two ends. ( a sport to play mutually, matching bracelets?) so which you already know your human beings terrific, get them what you already know they are going to savour ( a woman can in no way have too many scarves! :))

Definite no no....
No Alcohol
and preferably no home cooked food either as the family may not be able to eat certain ingredients within it.
Other than that, children are just children, and i'm sure a gift of any sort would be appreciated.
It might help just to imagine that you are buying something for your own kids.

A lot of people just give kids money... its the best thing.. Ohter wise you will be buying too many gifts and thinking what each child likes individually.. its annoying. So I say money is the best option.

It depends on the culture of the families concerned. I found that with most people, money is always welcome. I bought toys for my friend's children (they are Nigerian) and that was acceptable too.
