For us to avoid success we must consider first the absurdity of the desire for material goods. Fools believe that if they could only achieve wealth, their wills can be completely gratified. A man of means is supposed to be a man with means for the fulfillment of every desire.
People are often reproached for wishing for money above all things, and for loving it more than anything else. But it is natural and even inevitable for people to love that which, like an unwearied Proteus, is always ready to turn itself into whatever object their wandering wishes or their manifold desires may fix upon. Everything else can satisfy only one wish: money alone is absolute good because it is the abstract satisfaction of every wish.
Nevertheless, a life devoted to the acquisition of wealth is useless unless we know how to turn into joy and this is an art that requires culture and wisdom. A succession of sensual pursuits never satisfies for long. One must understand the ends of life as well as the art of acquiring means.
Great question! Have a wonderful day.

This comes naturally to some like me. I court adversity and feel proud of the fact that I am different. I just flow against the tide, kind of rebel and enjoy it - and just naturally - no extra effort put in. It's d way I am destined to be because whenever I tried to do otherwise, I failed and succeeded only in not getting success.
One big factor I suppose is that the path of rebellion is path of truth while for being successful in the worldly sense, one is required to have some amount of guile at one or the other stage. And while trying to be 100 % pure, truthful and ......, one tends to slip and fail. THIS is pretty sure.
And my way is also in a way Success-ful for I have succeeded in sticking to my values and principles.

By doing everything in their power to fail. Some fear achievement because they feel that the only place to go from there is downhill.

Do what I do........LOL. Park yourself in a dead end job, with no hope of advancement. That's one way. I would say I'm successful at avoiding success. Hmmm..........

Damn good question since, if they manage to avoid 'success', they've been successful in their quest ☺
