I have had 3 abortions, all while happily married, and I did use barrier birth control methods.
I also work in an abortion clinic, I work in womens health care.
I hardly bled after my surgical abortions, just some light spotting. Ru-486 is known to have much more bleeding than a surgical abortion, it is also more painful.
Today, most clinics offer painless abortions through IV anesthetics. You are asleep, or you are very drugged up, and you would not feel anything.
Medically speaking, abortion is the most common and safEst surgical procedure performed TODAY.

Bleeding, lots of it. That's a given.
There's a chance of infection, but it's fairly low with modern hygiene.
There's a very small chance of infertility later in life(usually as the cause of an infection)
Obviously it can also have a large psychological impact, which can lead to feeling of guilt, loss, or even post-traumatic stress.
There's also a great chance she'll be treated with hostility by people who don't agree on abortion.
Medically, however, it is quite a safe procedure.

I would think the worst are the emotional issues, although there are certainly medical conditions if its a medical abortion, i.e. later than about 16 weeks. Hard to go through for the mother, and the father if involved.

side affects can include light bleeding and slight cramping. side affects that can be life threatening include extreme pain, extreme bleeding, fever, vomiting. if those side affects occur, the woman should go to the ER asap, because it's a symptom of a possible infection or complication.
however, if the abortion goes smoothly, the woman will only experience light bleeding and cramping.

I don't know, I imagine that there has to be some effects to a woman that murders her own child. Or maybe women are as heartless as I previously assumed?
