I am 16 weeks pregnant and was told I have a kidney and UTI on sunday. I am taking macrodantin for it but my back is hurting so bad right over my left kidney. I called the dr to make an appointment as soon as they opened and they have no appointments (my ob has no appts and my regular dr has no appts). I was told by the urgent care doctor that if i wasnt feeling any better today i needed to see the doctor again. They have an appointment tomorrow afternoon but i dont think i can wait that long. What should I do? Should I go to the ER and get checked out or what? thank you so much for any advice, im just really worried about this hurting the baby.

You have a kidney infection, you're going to have pain at the kidney. Make sure you're drinking water like a fish.

If you are still in pain and not feeling any better after being on the antibiotics for 24 hours you need to go back in and be seen a second time, go to the ER if you have to.

Its common for this sort of thing to happen to women, and its not a risk so long as its monitored. Your kidneys are working over time because of the waste from the baby, they need a litle more help to get better when they ail.

you are right to be concerned. i was very prone to getting them with every pregnancy.

if you don't like to drink cranberry juice, they sell over the counter supplements. make sure to drink plenty of water during this as i'm sure you know, to help wash out the bacteria.

my doctor also had me eat at least one cup of yogurt with live active cultures daily. the cultures help fight off the icky bacteria in the urinary tract.

i know the only pain reliever usually allowed is Tylenol and i don't know if that will help you with this pain. if nothing else, have someone take you to the emergency room so you can be seen if the doctor has no openings.

i hope you feel better soon!

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

When I had a UTI, my doc told me to go to labor and delivery at the hospital. The staff at the hospital was in contact with my doctor. The other upside to doing this is that they get all of your insurance information, etc. so you don't have to worry about it when you go to deliver!

If you are feeling that bad, call your doctors office again and tell them if you cant be seen today, you will have to go to the ER. They may be able to squeeze you in if you persist.
