I don't mean to be insulting by posting this question in this group but I really need to get an answer to it. As the result of a bet my GF and I will dress as a pimp and hooker for Halloween she as the pimp & me the hooker. Costume contents were specific hers being all male clothes and mine all female (lacey thong bra see through blouse, tight miniskirt garterbelt stockings heels makeup wig jewelry). My GF says I will need to try stuff on to make sure it all fits and will have to learn to walk in heels. Would you agree with her since we will be in a parade first and then going to a party? If you agree do you agree with her that I will need to try on things like the blouse skirt and shoes over the underware and stockings I will be wearing and that the wig and makeup need to be matched to my face? If you agree can you tell me stores (department, shoe, etc) that would let me try things on & will we need saleshelp? I have never done this before and am nervous but will do it.

I should have told you that we are in the area of NYC and can get to anyplace within a reasonable drive. However, due to the requirements of work and school my GF & I want to try to get everything on one shopping trip. Mail order doesn't work well since we are both away most of the time. Getting clothes for her seems like less of a
problem than for me as women seem to always be bying men's stuff. I'm about 6 ft but I am slim as I am a swimmer. Given the clothes I have to wear I want to be sure I am covered as much as possible but GF has already warned me that a miniskirt won't cover much and I will need to learn to walk & sit in that as well as the heels. If GF is right about everything how much time will it take me to get used to this stuff to be able to actually wear it in public on Halloween?

Funny costumes.
I would say that you do need to try on the blouse, skirt, bra, and heels together to see how they work. You will also definitely need to practice walking in them at least a little, if you're going to be walking in a parade, and I would recommend you go with thick chunky heels for that. Trying to walk any great distance on the little pointy ones is a *****.
You DEFINITELY should try to match your base makeup to your skin tone, but the lipstick, eyeshadow, and all the rest you can go wild with. You will, after all, be a hooker. Same with the wig, go wild. Like one of those bubblegum pink numbers, or something equally goofy.
I don't THINK you'll need any sales help, beyond being let into the fitting room, provided your girlfriend can help you match your makeup and outfit fairly well. As for what stores you can do all this in...that would depend on what part of the country you live in, I suppose. Last year, several of my male friends were running around our local Walmart picking out ladies clothing, and they did try it all on in the fitting room. If whoever is in whatever store you go to has a good sense of humor, you should be all right.
Have fun.

I think your costume will be awesome! You're actually going to go into the women's department in a store and try on clothes? If you have any female friends who are about your size, you may want to start there first, that way you kinda know what you're looking for.
I agree that maybe you shouldn't walk the parade in heels - you'll regret it (especially if you break your ankle). Walk in flats and then change to heels for the party.
Have fun!

Where to shop depends on where you live. If there's a Spencer's, they usually have stuff like that. If your city is fairly large, it may have specialty shops that cater to larger women or men - a google search would provide the names. If you're embarassed to be seen doing it, bring your GF along and tell the sales clerk it's a Halloween party. The salesperson will probably have already helped a dozen people in the same situation.

You should for sure get flats girl. You can't go marching around on city streets in heels if you don't have experience.
Get some heels for the party though.
Dude, you're in New York. Find a shop.

Ahahaha....please take pictures of you in heels...walking posing...and then post them! If might be better for you to get a chunky heel and not a stiletto!

I guess your Gf is doubting about your sexual orientation so she found a way to test the validity of her suspicion. Now, it seems to me that even if you are nervous, you are also excited of the coming event because you also found a way to express what you really want to become. So to answer your question, yes, try it...
