Then maybe it's not a virus.. It could be malware or a trojan or just a nasty parasite. Try running the SuperAntiSpyware program found at : http://www.superantispyware.com . Get the FREE HOME Version.

Download it, Install it. Then check for an Update first, then chose Scan Computer and make sure to use the "Complete" scan option.

Sit back and let it do it's job. The scanning usually takes a good hour depending on the size of your harddrive. After it has finished, remove what it found.

Good Luck

Are you sure its not malware or a bot. Try a good spyware like webroot which also has virus detection. ,black ice is a good virus protector . Be sure your PC is cleaned of temp. files. Virus programs are by personal preference, everyone prefers something different. Go to windows and get the most recent windows security check, a new one comes out monthly in case it is in your system . If your pc is not legal than the last option is out. Many sites have removal tools once you find it(Norton,McAfee plus a few others. If all else fails reformat its a pain but at least you know it will be clean just be sure to back up anything you want to save to disk before preforming the reformat. I reformat once every 3 months to get rid of junk that lingers. Good Luck

Go to microsofts web site. Search /virus and type the name of your virus. They will tell you the best way to eliminate the virus. You can also type the name in your web browser and they will give you the method and best tools to use. If you have software that identifies it , quit buying more. Its pointless! If all else fails Low Level format and reinstall your operating system. If you save programs or files to disk make sure you run your anti virus program that detected the virus while there still on the disk before you reinstall .

Go here,

http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Hit,"skip the details and download the tool"
then follow the prompts.

If they can't find it then it is not in your OS and can esily be removed with a free antivirus or antispyware program like those mentioned above.

the idea of going to microsoft first is that if there is any damage being done to your OS then they can remove the offending virus or malware and fix any damage done to your system while they do it, something no other spy or virus program can do.

Pays also while you are on the microsoft site, to search for anr run the windows live one care on line scan.

Good luck.

I boot from a live CD that has ClamAV on it.
http://www.mepis.org

Then, after it clears the drive, I check it with boot up.

Sometimes, a Trojan can only be killed by wiping out the registry.

Turn off the restore option in My Computer>System, reboot, then turn it back on.

Major PITA so we have switched the entire school systems in 41 states to Linux, like http://www.mepis.org is only one of hundreds, at http://livecdlist.com that is really great, with total immunity to the million Microsoft virus, malware, spy/ad/ ware, and trojans.

Some idiot students will click on anything, and try to infect systems just for the fun of being scoundrels. Well, this stops them cold, as they have to have their student name and password, and a server log records everything!

Whether you have an Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Whatever, it's only good as it's latest update. It has to be updated on a regular basis. You have to get the latest definitions and then run the scan. Without the latest updates, it's a dinosaur.

NOD32 http://www.eset.com imho, it's catches a lot of viruses! If your system is too infected I would reload windows and start over, why beat yourself against the head trying to remove it?
