I turned on my dishwasher the other day and the motor seemed to be really loud in comparison to usual. It seems to have washed the dishes o.k. but it was making so much noise that I turned it off half way through. Do you think that it's safe to use or should I get someone in to have a look at it? My partner told me not to use it as he's afraid it will blow or something.

It is possible that the bearings are going out on the motor. They are located on both ends of the shaft and are there to reduce or eliminate friction. Over time they have a tendency to fail. The sound will get louder over time and eventually causing the motor to seize. If the dishwasher is over 10 to 12 years old, start saving for a new one because I think yours is about done.

Sounds like glass in the impeller. It will be under the housing below the spray arm. If you can't figure out how it comes off don't force it. Call for service.

Get it checked. You may have something floating around or in the pump. In todays world of plastic the pump itself could get chewed up by loose debris.

Sometimes the insulation falls off to the sides. Pull it out to check. Carefully
