The fabric of space is expanding. The volume of space that contained practically nothing has expanded so that now the density is even less. The volume of space seems to be stretching so that the density is continually decreasing. This is causing objects that are far away to seem to be receding from us at faster than light speed.

An analogy may be in order. Model spacetime by a sphere with time being represented by going down a longitude line and space for a fixed time being represented by a latitude line. The Big Bang would be represented by the north pole. In this model, space expands until we get to the equator and then starts to contract again until we get to the south pole, which represents a 'Big Crunch'.
Now ask what space is expanding into. By looking at our model, we see the question is either meaningless, or just has the answer 'into the future'.
In the real world, the spacial part is three dimensional, not one dimensional like in our model (the circles of latitude). Also, it is likely that the universe will expand forever, so instead of a sphere, a trumpet shape may be more appropriate. But the actual models used by scientists are generalizations and elaborations of models like this toy model.

The fact that space is a quantum entity means that a unit of space cannot expand but the entirety expands by diminishing in density.
This quantum entity also has a maximum and a minimum size, neither of which can be exceeded.
Matter and expansion diminishes the density of this medium and eventually it must reach a point where it can't exist
It expands into nothing,a cosmic interface, that precedes it to it's minimum density and it's final demise.

Hello Bob:
Your question has been asked many, many times before and is one of the quandries of mankind. This question asks us to describe the ocean and the exterior of a whale when we exist inside the whale's stomach - can't be done.
We exist in this universe which is expanding as documented by many, many astronomical measurements wherein the angles to given stars are measured and recorded. Later when measured again later, we find that the angles have changed slightly. Those slight changes have continued and continued over eons of time and that is why the skies seen by, and drawn by, anchient observers are somewhat different from the positions of various objects in the skies that we see today.
Since there is no definite answer to your question, asking it only results in lots of conjecture and various theories being cast out into the air as real possibilities. Are they real? Who knows? One thing is certain, however, and that is that the size of the known Universe is truly vast, beyond belief.
Distant galaxies have been observed by astronomers at distances of 13.7 Billion Light Years in various directions from Earth. And, using radio telescopes distant objects have been detected at distances of 40 Billion Light Years. One light year is about 6 Trillion Miles. If you try to multiply 13.7 Billion times 6 Trillion Miles (one Light Year) you come up with a monster of a number representing the distance out to some of those galaxies. Now multiply that by about 3 to get the distance to things we can presently detect in space but not actually see with our very best optical equipment, and you produce an even larger distance number.
No one has ever detected a finite end to Space, a wall, or a partition of some kind at the end of it. And, in the same context, there have never been any reports of objects such as Moons, Planets, Stars, Comets, or Asteroids bouncing (or glancing) off of the end points of space and hurtling back at us. So, with that in mind, we can safely say that space extends outward for a very, very long distance. Any other assumptions are just that...guesses. Nobody has ever been there. Nobody is ever going there (to the end of space). And, if they did, they would never come back due to the length of the travel time. Were they to send messages back to us here on Earth, it would take say 13 Billion Years for the message from one of those far, distant, galaxies to reach us. If you do some research you will discover that the Sun is scheduled to begin dieing in about 5 Billion Years. As a result, that chap and his crew who flew way out there to the Edges of Space would have no one to talk with when he got there. The point is that questions like this are futile.

We don't know. The reason we don't know is that we don't know. But consider this. The Universe may be made of of 11 dimensions. In ordinary space, the one which we inhabit, we perceive four, one of which is time. The other seven are "curled up". It could be that the four dimensional universe is expanding in 11 dimensional space. Not commonsensical? Who said it had to be?

a minimum of while Christians spout gospel, they point out the place interior the Bible the passage exists so we are able to a minimum of ascertain what it says. i might did a seek of an information superhighway Quran and could no longer locate your passage. So your preliminary fact is incomprehensible. positive attempt however. shop on with up: thank you, Mostafa. right this is the quote: "Have people who disbelieved no longer seen that the heavens and the earth have been a joined entity, and We separated them and created from water each residing ingredient? Then will they no longer have self assurance?" would not rather conform to what the unique submit says, does it? i assume this you are able to be a mis-translation.

UNIVERSE IS EXPANDING INTO NOTHING BUT THAT IS EXPANDING IN EMPTY SPACE THEIR ARE NO. OF ATTEMPTS MADE TO PROVE TO EXPLAIN IT BUT THE BEST KNOWN I BE LIVE WILL BE THAT OF EINSTEIN AS HE SAID THAT THE WHOLE OF THE 4 DIMENSIONAL SPACE-TIME IS CONCENTRATED IN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE KNOWN UNIVERSE
THE YET ANOTHER BELIEF IS THAT THEIR IS NOT A SINGLE UNIVERSE HERE BUT IS AN INFINITY CHAIN THAT IS IN ONE LARGE EXIST ANOTHER AND YET BIGGER UNIVERSE EXISTS IN MORE BIGGER UNIVERSE

The space BETWEEN things is expanding. In particular, the space between the super-groups of galaxies is getting bigger.
The space between regular groups of galaxies, and between galaxies, is not expanding much -- at least, not yet.

It's not expanding "into" anything. You merely think this because you're imagining some macroscopic objects -like balls or balloons - that you're familiar with. It's just expanding.
