Take it anyways hun. Trust me on this especially if you have been sick. You need some time to prop your feet up and relax before the baby comes because once that baby comes there is no such thing as relax.

Do you mean you want to go back to work? Or that you want to stay on sick leave instead of using up maternity leave?
If you want to go back, best talk to your work's personnel department. I do know that the dates aren't set in stone (they can't be, because they have to change in a hurry if your baby is born before you are due to start maternity leave).
If you want to stay on sick leave, I think it would depend on why you're off sick - if it's associated with your pregnancy you're on pretty shaky ground saying it shouldn't count as maternity leave. I'm sure there are an awful lot of people who'd like to count the start of their maternity leave as sick leave instead, and then get all the maternity leave as well.
If your work is friendly and helpful, I'd ask them for your exact legal position. If not, maybe Citizens' Advice?

well the fact that you have been out of work for 4 weeks ... seems to me that maternity leave is best for your situation.
I am going to be 35 weeks and i'm still working full time ... so some people can do it and others are not able to. This is a crusial time and you should think of taking the best care of your body and your baby.

This isnt a question..
If you have an employment issue, you need to talk to your boss...No one here is going to know the nature of your contract.
Surely though, maternity leave is more healthy for you and baby...Make sure you're fully rested before being launched into sleepness nights and all that..
Good luck with everything.

Not sure how it works now, but I didn't take any - I was at work on the Friday and planning to go in on the Monday but labour stopped that plan dead in its tracks! Talk to your employer - so long as you aren't doing any heavy physical work, I don't see a problem with it.

I think that you have to put the babys health before your own wishes....sorry, I dont mean to be rude but any healthcare professional will tell you the same.
