If you compare what Jesus expects of you to what the church expects it seems to be different. People fail in that environment.

In churches where they follow the ideas that Jesus presented:
1 - personal growth
2 - showing love
3 - changing inside out
4 - helping others
5 - leave the judging to YVHV

then folks do alright

What are your thoughts?

I would not necessarily number the ideas in the same order you've presented. But that's only a minor point. I think that creeds, dogma, councils, etc. only detract from Jesus' message to us. What Christ taught us was really very simple. If we accept Christ as our Savior, love God with all our heart and treat others as we want to be treated, in my opinion, we will be fine.

Well, all those things you listed as being ideas that Jesus presented are expounded upon by councils and creeds. The Church speaks with Christ's voice (Luke 10:16), is the pillar of truth (1 Timothy 3:15), judges with Christ's authority (Matthew 18:15-18), and Scripture clearly says that the Holy Spirit speaks through councils (Acts 15). So I am not sure why you assume that councils and creeds "changed" the original message of Jesus. That's a huge leap in logic and a big assumption.

When you choose to be a follower of Christ you must take into account that the aspect put forward by the disciples was only one, the aspect of the lamb. The perfect and unblemished sacrifice. You can not omit all that preceded him or all that came after. Yes we should live our lives as his example to an extent. That we should all go out and spread the word is not what he said. What he taught was a very mixed bag. Too often it is cherry picked for only the peaceful.
Please read what he told the poor woman that was not a Jew. Read of what he did to the fig tree. One time he sent out the disciples with nothing and later he sent them out and admonished them to take their swords. Not to make war but to defend themselves. He also taught us to judge our teachers when he spoke of the Pharisee.

Or how about "Do all these things listed above, or Go to Hell for eternity"? Where does hell fit in to Jesus's teachings?
