Hmm...choose between evidence of 15 million years of life or a stroy about a carpenter who lived 2,000 years ago and hasn't been seen since. Tough choice.

That's the million dollar question :]

There's so many religions that claim 'God' is their god, and that the others are wrong. None can give any proof as to why they'd be right and the others are wrong. Ultimately it all comes down to belief.

If you really want to know what god is, try reading the texts of different religions. See which you connect with. If you find something that makes sense and that you can believe in, you've found "God". Atleast as much as you'd be able to without a clearcut sign/proof of some kind.

My personal belief is that a god does exist... but if we ever did know the truth surrounding him/her/it, that knowledge has long been lost or forgotten.

Well yu don't assume or choose to accept the existence of God... He will reveal himself to yu and yu will have one of those experiences where yu cannot possibly doubt that God does not exist...

But i suppose yu might prefer a more direct answer, literal, and not too religious...
God is God... he says so in the bible. And He is not made for words. It is something to be felt spiritually. He is also part of the trinity. God the father, the son (jesus), and the holy spirit. Jesus was his incarnate, in the flesh and quite tangible :3
God is like love. not expressable with words only known by emotion. And first and foremost God is the Creator of everything around yu. Also God is dog backwards... :3

God is the sun rise and sun set. Watch it tonight and just look at it. Watch the stars and feel the greatness and vastness of the universe. god is also that thing that tugs on your heart to make the world a better place and fix the wrongs. God is love :-)

The lord is a rewarder of those who diligently seek after him .....Stop trying to doubt so much and offer the process an open mind at least ....I can teach you to sharpen an axe as long as you don't put your fingers in your ears and say " blah blah blah blah I'm not listening to you !!!"
So my advice is ...hey we all have need for understanding of spiritual things and a good look at ourselves prompted by our conscouses is an honest beginning....Hit the new testement starting with acts and read to revolations and try not to bring an inordinant amount of doubt to the text but give it an honest ...."gee I don't get it but that doesn't mean it's unreliable ." Fact is you'll get most of it and the other things you don't understand just become fun questions to finnaly understand while you walk with him.....There's nothing like being lead of the spirit ...Don't let unbelievers B.S. you into thinking they have any hope or comfort....They know they stand on shifting ground and the honest of them would admit it ...95% of them won't or can't but they know it in their hearts that their beliefs or lack of them are based soley on heresay or theory...The beauty of christianity is christ will show up and give comfort, he will show up and give you assurance.and yes it is about faith ,for us at least but he deals in truth, freedom liberty ,justice.hope and love ..and these things have created the whole world and will surpass common knowlege which exhalts it's self against god himself ....what sheer folly

The question is simple but the answer is too complicated to explain him!

He is the cause of every thing in the universe.

He is the creator and lord of the universe.

Religion call him God - Link between heavens and earth.

Science call him supernature - creator of universe.
(Scientist do not deny the creator but deny the names and attributes given by religions)

God (Allah, Yehwah, Elahi) is one and unique in his nature. He has no Son, Wife parent or partner in his divinity. He is omnipotent.

What is God? Well, God has revealed Himself. The question is whether or not you are willing to allow Him to do so. He walked with us 2,000 years ago. Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. He also established His own people, His Body, the Church.
