My wife and I had rock lobster tails. The texture was very rubbery. We had to use a knife and fork to cut them. And they tasted bitter. Not at all sweet. The waitress got the manager to substitute Maine lobster tails. They were better, but had a very fishy taste. My wife had lobster years ago and loved it. We love shrimp, crab, scallops, and several kinds of fish, but the lobster was awful. Is lobster supposed to be like this?

Lobsters are like prawns or shrimp. They have a distinct taste, so they ate not suppose to taste like fish. I love lobsters! I don't think that the lobster you had was cooked properly, fishy taste might have been caused by cross contamination or it was cooked with fish stock. Bitter taste must be something burned, and rubbery texture, I think its cause of overcooking.

Yes, they do sell lobster. My experience when I have had it is that it is relative small and I did not get enough Lobster. In 1985 in Jackson, Ms. my husband and I went to a Seafood Restaurant and for $50.00 we ate all of the lobster we wanted. Even brought some home and had lobster omelets for Sunday Brunch. Delicious

Absolutely not! You were getting old frozen lobster. If you are not where you can get fresh lobster, there must be a Red Lobster restaurant somewhere near you. Best I have ever had outside Maine, fresh caught. Btw, lobster is *supposed* to taste a bit fishy. What did you think? Like chicken?

not if it is fresh it shouldn't taste that way. I do not care for lobster personally. It should have a taste similar to a prawn or crab, sweet and tender. My sister was on a cruise and they served her a lobster that was bad, she got food poisoning from it in fact.

I think the cook, did Overcook your dish. If you overcook, then it will be like rubber. I am here in Australia where we have an abundant supply of this Delicious crustation. Most are fresh and kept in large tanks after being caught. It takes a little more time to prepare but it is worth it. Lobster is still not as tasty to me as is fresh water Crayfish. It is the food they serve in Heaven.

No. Lobster should be flaky - not rubbery. That means it's been overcooked.
You should still be able to taste the sweetness of the meat

No! If you smell or taste ammonia, BEWARE! It will give you food poisoning. I think it was over microwaved but there is no way of knowing what happened without seeing the restaurant and the lobster. What is the name and address of the restuarant you went to, and in which city is it in please?Take care {:-)
