If this was a simple mistake - for example, if the dress was hung on the wrong rack - I'd ask the shop to get it cleaned, maybe give me a break on the price, but I'd still wear it.
Around wedding time, brides, grooms, and associated involved parties can get stressed out and tired, which makes small things seem huge. In a few years, either the marriage will work out and it won't seem important, or the marriage won't work out, and it won't seem important.

I would freak out!! That is your dress, that is like someone trying on your engagement ring. It is a very personal and special thing for a bride.
The store should have NEVER done that, especially since the dress was already being altered to someone else.

I would be very angry, not upset! Obviously she left her dress at a business for the sole purpose of alteration. This is all they should do to the dress. It is not their property to let any random come and try on, they have no right. What if that person left makeup on the dress? Will the alteration place pay for cleaning? At $300 i bet they won't. What if they damaged the dress? It is bad business parctice and if it was me I would demand to imspect the dress and then still demand a discount on the work they did due to the unprofessional nature of their business.

Oh my goodness, you are already being too kind about this. You could be direct, and either you or your fiance can explain to her that it's inappropriate for anyone other than the bride (and the flower girls) to wear white. Traditionally, the mother of the bride is supposed to pick out her dress first and then talk to the mother of the groom about dress options. Could your mother speak with her (or pretend not to know what dress she picked out and say something like "I looked at the prettiest dress, but I think it's too white and I don't want to match the bride!" Otherwise, the next time you are around her you can ask a friend or relative to say something like "This woman I work with is wearing white to her daughter's wedding, can you believe it?!" and hope she gets the hint. It's not foolproof and not entirely honest, but it's better than nothing.

I would be very upset. For most brides their dress is a very important part of the day. They want to look the best they have ever looked and dont want to think about their dress being worn by any one else. Well that is excluding an occassion where the bride chooses to wear her mothers or grandmothers wedding dress. That is a totally different thing.

I'd be very upset... not because someone had the same style... bt because someone had on MY dres...
After working in a bridal salon, there are only a limited number of different styles... at some point in time SOMEONEs gonna order the same dress. We had one consultant who in one weekend sold the same style of dress to 3 different girls. Its happens!!
This isnt prom, where you have to SEE the other person in "your dress". And with alterations and different body types, dresses look different on different people. Most importantly, you probably dont know the women who bought "your dress"

I wouldn't be happy either. I think if the store wanted her to see what that style would look like they should have contacted the owner and asked first. It isn't their property to allow others to try on. Although unlikely, any damage done could be devastating to the owner! Some of these are air looms, have history, have sentimental value.

I would be pretty mad..... and I doubt it was a mistake, they just wanted to sell that woman the same dress so used that one! I would be mad because if the woman has makeup or perfume on- she could stain and ruin the dress! Plus people are rough with things that are not theirs! And you don't know if that woman was clean! YUCK!
She should be reinburst the cost of dry cleaning the dress!!

Absolutely, i'd be p***ed! I can't believe the store allowed that. If the dress was there to get altered, then it was already bought and not on the rack anymore. I hope that she made a huge stink about it

If she had already bought it, the store had no right to continue using a sold item for trials. (If someone was buying a dress like it - since there are many dresses made from the same pattern, no) But, I would definitely ask the store for a "fresh" replacement garment, if they were continuing to use the one I had already paid for as a trial garment. Who wants to go to their wedding wearing a sweat stained dress? Ewww I would probably go to a different store and make it known to my friends...
