Did you know that there IS a danger that a dog licking a baby's face can actually give the baby worms? Do not let the dog lick the baby in the mouth. It may be sweet to watch but you are putting that baby at medical risk and why would you want to risk anything with a baby if there were confirmed cases of this?

Totally understand where you are coming from I got allot of stick coz I asked a simple question about my English Bull Terrier. Some people should just crawl under the rock the emerged from!!
I let my bully's give me kisses all the time there is no harm in it, my niece loves them too they totally dote on her.
P.S I love Pits only wish they weren't illegal in England.
Not the dogs fault but that of ignorant people!
Oh and can you believe some people get English Bull Terriers mixed up with Staff's too umm very hard to tell the difference Really!!! They look completly different!!

That's what happens if you post questions that are nothing more than a b1tch about an answer that you don't like. As in everyday life there are those that agree and disagree with you. Every opinion is valid, but it doesn't mean you have to take any notice.
For what its worth, I love dogs. But if you come on here baiting people by stating nonsense about leaving dangerous dogs breeds with babies you should expect answers that are critical of your actions. If you follow the news you'd be aware that there is a recent story in the public domain regarding a granny that left here grandbaby with a supposedly safe dog, and the dog killed the baby. Of course every dog wont do this, but why take the risk?

hi. i havent seen your first question so i dont know what it was.but i do agree there is a big big difference between pit bulls and staffies.i have yet to meet a nasty staffie they are brilliant with kids(i do have a staffie) mine adores my neice and if she gets fed up with the little one pulling her about she just walks away she never ever attempts to bite her.Pit bulls sadly have been taught to fight they have been bred to fight this is such a shame because they are beautiful dogs.but unfortunately cannot be trusted with children....yes i hear the shouts but there is always the exception to the rule .yes there is..i am sure there are the odd bad staffie as well as the odd good pit bull.i just think it is so sad that there are still people that actually call themselves HUMAN that will make their dogs fight until the death in alot of cases.

You'll get a lot of that. You just need to suck it up and move on. But, I agree never leave a dog and baby unattended. Glad to hear you dont. My dogs always licked my kids faces and hands when given the chance. Never had one bite them.
As a kid I used to share my ice cream cones with the dog. I have it on film. I never got sick from it. Also, you can get worms from a dog just by walking on the same floor, removing your shoes and then touching your face. That's why you have your dogs wormed on a regular basis.

i think i missed your first question. a dog licking is a sign of affection, as well as them liking the taste of salt on our skin. i have german shephards, and can let my dogs and kids play in the front and back gardens. neither of the kids are in any danger as my dogs think tey are their peppies, and so take good care of them. including moving them away from something they see as dangerous. so whoever said that if a dog licks its gonna eat you is talking out of their @rse.___ just found your prevoius question. i found that if i included my dogs in just about everything i did with my kids the jealousy subsided. let the dog get there just ahead of you when baby cries, then if he turns to you he's expecting a reaction. tell him baby crying and tell him good boy. then sit with baby and let your dog smell and get close to you and your baby. this way he should learn that baby is not a threat, but a friend that's a bit smaller. staffs are known for being great with kids, assuming they are raised correctly with them. any sign of agressiveness should be dealt with by exclusion, not anger. tell him to leave and go to his bed. however you wish to do it. dog are pack animals, so exclusion and being ignored hurts more than the hiding that some people give out. i have never had a problem with me dogs and kids. hope you get on well.. your baby has a great friend there. wait til he/she's walking, and then you'll see a difference in how they react to each other.

Hi, i breed dogs and i know that on the tounge of any dog is a kind of antiseptic, that is why they lick when they get injured as it hepls them heal, my dogs lick faces and over 30 years they have never atempted to bite, it is a way of showing affection to us, carry on you no your dog well and should not be any problem, some that not know about dogs should not reply to peoples questions just to gain points.
I wish you well with your dog and baby
