I agree with Capitalctu. What is the difference between a bank owning you? We think we are 'free' but the only freedom we have is to 'choose our own chains'. Although I don't hold with one man being master over another, back then it might have been a lifesaver to many people. Jewish people were forbidden to mistreat slaves and set them free once they had completed their debt. Even Joseph worked for 14 years (although he got compensation for it) for his uncle.
This is quite different from the form of slavery later on. This kind of slavery was not to pay off a debt or to find a better life, it was for profit. They sold people to make money. This does not parallel the Jewish slavery at all.

right this is the version: if youpersistent too quickly, you have a collision, yet it rather is no longer a punishment, it rather is a result. If the police capture you using too quickly and supply you a cost ticket, it rather is a punishment. it is not an computerized result. A result would not contain interplay - it rather is the organic or logical results of what you're doing. A punishment is composed of a individual giving out the punishment. If a baby is working interior the homestead, he ought to in all probability hit some thing and injury himself. which would be a result. If his mom stops him and gives you him a outing, this is a punishment. outcomes are lots greater effectual than punishments while it is composed of bringing discipline, yet outcomes are sometimes too late or too extreme, while punishments, mutually as no longer almost as effectual, could be controlled, interrupted, or maybe placed on hiatus or maybe suspended.

No it's not true because slavery doesn't make sense any more.
There is an economic reason and a humanitarian reasons for ending slavery. Free workers with some skills and education are considerably more productive than slaves.
Maybe at other times in history when education and economic and social conditions were very different, slavery was economical, but not any more.

Biblical slavery was someone working to pay off a debt. If they took longer than 7 years to pay the debt off, they were released. Better context would liken it to Credit Cards or a mortgage, though they don't have the reprieve offered every 7 years...
So, I would hope the "enlightened idiots" he was talking about were the morons who bought and sold people as property. In which case, I agree completely.

They have been cherry picking the bible since its first incarnation. Picking and choosing what they can use today and what they can say was a result of the 'culture' back then. The bible has been edited and re written so many times, but over and over Christians deny it, and blindly say it is literal and 100% true and accurate.

Well I am thankful for being enlightened. Of course, it is possible to be enlightened and still have faith or isn't it? No? Oh well .. of to the fires for me.

I take it then that he is an unenlightened idiot.
Slavery assumes complete superiority of one person over another and this has 'negative connotations'.

I wonder why this person would "stand by his answer"...
Isn't it kind of embarrassing to declare oneself "OK" with owning other humans and forcing them to work?
But hey, since it was ok thousands of years ago, why should he feels ashamed to step forward and support it?
Shouldn't we ALL? *eyeroll*
