It depends on how n why you're taking pictures. If you like photography as a hobby, then I'd suggest that you carry your camera with you all the time; you never know what's happening down the road; but you'll be ready for shooting anything that you think you like it. 2nd suggestion, I'd recommend that you use your camera as a machine gun! It's always better take more than one photo for the same object or image or whatever that is. Then you'll pick up the best shot after comparing them.

Depends upon the subject. If it's a wedding or a onetime event, the more the better. An event or subject that's common , yes, too many.
People used to be tortured with others vacation pics, slides and movies. The only positive thing was that movies were expensive and therefore, short. However, video in camcorders are cheap. I've had to sit through 45 minutes of my sister's dog wagging it tail, barking and running me out of my mind before I got up and left.

The answer by "blacksmith" is my biggest knock on digital photography. Take 300 images and hope, hope that 20 or 30 are worth keeping. IMO its far better to slow down and take fewer exposures and more good ones. Its called "getting it right in the camera" and avoiding too much wasted time in an editing program trying to make a medocre image into an average one.
My enjoyment of photography began in 1971. You learned how to take really good photographs by learning about light, shutter speeds, f-stops, ISO and composition. You learned to be more selective before you committed a scene to film. The goal then and now is to go out and take 36 exposures that you want to keep. Perhaps one day I'll realize that goal.

You can never have too many photos, especially with digital photography. Take as many pictures of something as you can, if you run out of space you can always switch cards or delete photos. You'll never know if you missed a great shot unless you've taken the picture from all angles.

depends. Sometimes too many that I have to delete a lot of them, and sometimes I don't even want to take pictures at all when I'm in my lazy mode. Of course, things are different when I'm on job. I'd take as many picture as possible and select them later.

Too few - as it seems the best photo opportunities are either when my batteries have conveniently died or I'm too busy having fun, enjoying the moment to worry about taking pictures.

Just enough, as long as I get the images I need. If I don't get the images I need, then I didn't take enough.
I can never think of a time when I took too many.
