There are probably a million artistic representations of God out there, most without blue eyes, so the premise for your question is a bit shaky.

He is painted in many different colors and mostly brown eyes. Painters painted him the same as the people around them and since most of the great painters at the time religious paintings were done were Italian, he looked like them. The picture you are thinking about is only one of many.

It is written that God made us to his likeness,
so I quess that the painters painted him to their likeness??
You are right, in the land Jesus was born he should be darked skin & eyes, but we must never forget that humains did the paintings, not God. Also no one has ever seen God, only his son was seen by humains.
What ever God looks like does not really matter, it is more what we have in our hearts and souls that gets us closer to his likeness.

Probably because he was painted BY a white man with blue eyes.

Christian imagery from other lands is pretty interesting. I've seen a Japanese Jesus, a Peruvian Jesus and an African Jesus. We imagine these divine presences literally "in our own image." it's a fairly human response and shouldn't be taken literally or personally.

My guess is you mean Jesus. I have seen black Jesus portraits and indeed very Asian ones.

Fact is Jesus is painted by what the painter has in his head. In a 'white' culture Jesus is bound to turn out somewhat white

and in Africa he will become black. http://www.ebolterinn.com/gallery/albums/buzz/Black_Jesus_Children_T.jpg

It is a simple as that.
