@Logic316
as your handle suggests...there must be reason for everything. chemnical imbalance...right...but there must be something that triggers/aggravates it.

oooh harsh...so now you're in denial...
well i say...too bad for you...you're depressed without a reason...and not only that...it seems you have conditioned your mind in believeing so...
instead of trying to understand where you're depression might be coming from...you prefer to dismiss all possiblities ... that there in fact might be something in your life which causes it.
Yours is a hopeless case then....your only hope are psychologists who you will have to pay to listen to you ... and in the end they will surprise you with a diagnosis derived from their analysis based on your own testimonies too.
Howell....if you enjoy long routes... =)

I only get depressed for valid reasons. My first bout of depression happened when I as 17 years old...it was because my father died and his was the first funeral I ever went to in my life. Then I met a man and had 3 children with him...and my most depressive state came after our oldest son, who was only 20 years old, died almost 3 years ago. I read in a book about a psychic healer, named Edgar Cayce, that said ''Joy is a nutrient''. Now some of you may think this is a silly thing to say...but I found it to be true...when I am depressed, I feel weak and tired all the time and I seriously feel like my body is withering away. So I went to a Naturopathic doctor and he put me on some naturopathic medicine that lifted my depression, but I also use humor to bring me joy and my condition has greatly improved.

Because true depression is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. That imbalance may or may not be initiated or exacerbated by a reason. ... Ask anyone who has ever been on anti-depressants. Medications make the depression go away by balancing the brain chemicals, not by making your problems disappear.

The human condition is enough to for some that are inclined to suffer a depression from.
Is all dependent on the individual, the professional that makes coins from it and the people that use up there time talking about others.
The sky isn't falling, yet.

and pray tell .. what are VALID REASONS .. ???

it's pretty obvious to me that you actually have NO understanding of what depression actually is .......

I can KNOW that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with my life .. that I have a good job .. that I have a great family .. that I am financially ok .. that i , in reality , have NOTHING to worry about .......

BUT yet I can feel like $hit warmed up ... and feel like I just can not cope.. that I have no confidence.. that I feel completely and utterly useless... that I can cry at the drop of a hat ....

It is about FEELING and HOW you feel .. NOT reasons ....

EDIT .. you are a complete idiot ..
May god Help any of your family who have the misfortune to suffer depression .. and have to rely on you for compassion.

I have nothing to be ashamed of ... infact more reasons to be proud .. BUT i have suffered from depression .. and it is like walking around with a massive dark cloud surrounding you ...

You need to read a little bit about Winston Churchill and what he refered to as HIS BLACK DOG ..

MAY you NEVER experience depression .

What do you consider to be valid reasons? Depression is often a very real medical problem, and not something somebody simply "chooses" to have just to annoy people.

No offense, but since when did you think human emotion had any rhyme or reason?

People get depressed for any number of things no matter how insignificant. It's just the nature of our predicament.

Well you see depression is not very smart. It doesn't know how to restrict itself to people who have a valid reason. So it looks for people with anxiety issues and makes a home with them.

Because what makes one person extremely unhappy might not even phase another person. We all have our own issues, things that matter to us and things that hurt us. We all have different personalities and different coping mechanisms.
