If someone is homeless I think God did a great job already screwing them. What would praying do for that person??

I don't think its rude, it does nothing for the person in need of help, but it does make the person praying feel all warm and fuzzy.

Nauseating.

You asked 2 questions, so here are my 2 answers:

1) I don't know about rude, but probably insensitive - especially if you don't know the person well. If you want to show that you care, then I think it would be more appropriate to say "I'll pray for you".

2) Praying can't hurt and might help. Just the idea of focusing on something other than oneself makes a difference on a quantum level.

prayer and action go together, and besides praying for someone can help them get up and do what they may need to do. Do not negate the power of prayer. Nehemiah in scripture acted and prayed at the same time, and wonderful things happened. Maybe praying will help you see how you can help that homeless person.

I have a daughter with a birth defect and the first thing people told me was to pray to God to help her.

If he were so darn great, he would not have screwed her over in the first place.

Praying only helps the person who does the praying... nothing else.

Multiple studies [NY Times]have proven that praying does not work, in some case it even had a negative effect. The explanation for this is, because gods are imaginary.

It's not so much rude as stupid, things are not going too well for a person, they have no job or their wife/husband has left them so talk to an invisible sky being, yeah right.

well, if they prayed, then the christian people would think "oh, hes a nice christian person who just came upon some bad luck, maybe i should help him out" its just a big act they should pull to get more money. christians only care about other christians

I think its unhelpful.
If they were so inclined to pray, then I would have to assume they already thought of that.
If they were not inclined, then that would be insulting.
