In Revolvers, double action is the only thing you want for a personal defense weapon.
For target or hunting, you want to use single action as the trigger pull is much less, so a single or double action that allows hammer cocking.

I prefer Single Action pistols and I carry the Browning Hi Power.

Double action pistols were created due to a perceived and incorrect theory that they were "safer", which has never been proved to be true. The triggers are horrible, as they perform two opposing functions.

DAO or Double Action Only pistols were created by lawyers and not gun designers. No one who knows jack about shooting a pistol would carry a DAO. Shoot a nicely tuned 1911 or Hi Power and then shoot a Glock and you will see what a POS that trigger is, hard, gritty and an inconsistent break.

It is hard to beat a good double-action modern revolver although some will argue that a single-action is more accurate. I don't agree especially since the double action revolvers can be fired single-action if the shooter so choses.

Double action automatics are probably just a fraction of second quicker to deploy. Of course, that depends on your level of training with the individual weapon so its a moot point. I have both types of revolvers n automatics.

Best.

it is a matter of personal preference
I like single action as i always single action a double action
for hunting it doesn't matter
for self defense the double is better in my opinion because you don't have to pull the hammer back, you can dump all the spent cartridges at once instead of rotate the wheel and use the ejector rod for each spent cartridge , you can use a speed loader.
another pro for the double is it is easier to clean as you do not have to take the cylinder wheel out
but as i said it has a lot to do with the intended use and personal preference

Better for what?? Just plain shooting fun? Give me the single action. Self defense? double action. Hunting? long barreled, scope mounted single action.

Double Action because you have more options.* You can shoot single action with it or double.*
