And the rest come and go. Like watching sports, so many go to the game and say its my team! But there is only a few that help all the time.

May Allah bless your paths inshAllah for all the hard work you do if you do it. Imagine if everyone was asked what they like to do and then choose that to help even 2 hrs a week, and then everything you can't do is done for you for free... IMAGINE THAT WELL IT WAS TRUE WORKINGS AROUND THE PROPHETS!!!!!!!!!! Go back and look, they did everything together, Then the left took over cause they allowed it, and then we all went back to slavery again... why are you carring water?

It isn't just church, most organizations have the same problem. There are always a few dedicated individuals who take charge or consistently volunteer to do the work and the rest sit back and enjoy the show. By the way, most families function like this too. How many times do you see the kids or the spouse jumping up to help with the dishes?

This is the Mary - Martha situation. One does a lot while the other just sits and listens. Who is doing better?
That said, most places of worship, especially churches, have a team of volunteers who do different stuff on different days and even during any given service they chip in at different times as needed. There are others whose labor you will never see, ever -- these are ones who come in earlier than the rest of the group and setup the chairs, dust them, get the aisles all freshened up, et. al, run thru the nurseries and ensure that diapers are in place, check the thermostats to see if they are set to optimum for the day, at the parking lot to see that traffic flows as smoothly as possible. Almost everybody pitches in, some monetarily, some in kind and some in service.

Yeah. I'm one of the ones who's there behind the scenes helping. Sometimes, I wonder what it'd be like to just be the come-and-go type of parishioner. When I get a chance to visit other churches, sometimes it's nice to attend a service without having to hang around for an hour afterward cleaning up, or showing up several hours early to set up the altar or rehearse the music.

We have a saying about that. 20% of the people do 80% of the work.
I don't believe this only happens in churches, but everywhere. Perhaps it has something to do with personality. Some are leaders and some are followers.
Just think, without all those followers, who would us 20% lead?

The ol' 80 / 20 rule. 80% of the people do 20% of the work and 20% of the people do 80% of the work . "The harvest is plentiful ... but the labourers are few".

They do that so the people with the martyr complexes can fulfill their destiny.
Seriously, not everybody's life revolves around church.
