Betty, you make perfect sense. THAT is the problem,. It IS simply THAT easy. Well, THAT doesn't give anyone (Religious) authority any power, any control, any MONEY. Now having a "God", having a little black BOOK, having a Religious AUTHORITY does give all of the to a select group of individuals. It allows those with HUGE but fragile egos to control everyone else in order to satiate their hunger and thirst for power and money. As the common people allow their minds to become influenced by these people and their views of a God, through their BOOK, they are able toconvince MORE followers through PEER PRESSURE to join with the growing crowd of "Believers". This exaclates until some TRUTH is revealed as to the TRUE origin of the authority, power and book. When that happens, the Religious system begins to falter, and fall apart from within. The Major Religions of the world have already undergone these thngs. Look at the rise and fall of Paganism in the Greek Empire, the Roman Empire and other places throughout time. When the Rel;igious Caste acheived too much power and authority, their arrogance left them where they didn't pay attention to the FACTS. As the facts became widely known, the RELIGION fell apart from within. The Judeo-Christo-Islamic set of Religions has entered the arrogant stage and as the common folk become exposed to the TRUTH behind the origin and history of their Faiths, they too will begin to ignore the "authorites" and the downfall of that set of beliefs will fall apart from within, too.

It is not a matter of the knowledge of right and wrong. Without God, that knowledge comes only through feelings/emotions and feelings have no moral authority over us. We would be foolish to merely obey our feelings and we don't. For example, do we run out and give all our money whenever we feel sympathy? No, we simply dull (or manipulate) our feelings of sympathy.
If God exists, He must have given us this idea about morality and therefore He, and not some vague feeling, is the moral authority to Whom we are obligated. It's not a matter of a threat of hell.

Anybody who has to be threatened with Hell to do the right thing is headed for Hell anyhow. My guess is that this is directed at Christians. Can't the atheists on here come up with any new bashes? Sad, really.

There are stages of perception that we go through.
First we do the right thing from fear of punishment
Next we do the right thing because it is morally the right thing to do.
Finally, and ultimately, we reach a stage in our life when we do the right thing because there is nothing else that fulfills our sense of purpose.
Perhaps some people just get stuck on the god thing and cannot seem to evolve past that point. Who knows?

Because many people CHOOSE or PREFER NOT to be good. We live in an evil world where many people are immoral by choice. If you are "good" atheist...great!!! But it doesn't change the fact that there IS a God who sets absolute moral law.

That's a big question.
You incorrectly assume that God is waiting outside your door to hit you over the head with a bat whenever you do something wrong.
The bible actually says that it is God's kindness that leads us to repentance. We obey God because we love him. We love him because he loved us first. When we had no thoughts of 'being good', He still loved us.
That's my short answer

there is no threat only truth you have an eternal soul. now if you want to live by Gods law then you can dwell with him in the afterlife. if you do not want to live by Gods law then you can have no connection to him in the afterlife.
