Are you Christian or Pagan?
If Pagan, then you have a chance of bad spirits infesting clothing, etc. If you are Christian then believing such things violates your faith.

There's no such thing as spirits in worldly things.
Since the category of your question is in Religion and Spirituality, belief should be placed on whether you are buying out of necessity or luxury. Because even though it may be second hand, it if is not necessary, then why buy it? You can help others in need with that extra money.

N0 - I believe that buying second hand items is wonderful! Not only does it conserve materials, it gives jobs to people who buy and sell them, and gives new life to objects that may be discarded. An old saying is that "One person's trash is another person's treasure". Someone may have items that are like new, but never liked the style or fit, which would be quite suitable for someone else. Why waste nice things? I frequent flea markets and thrift stores and buy for a fraction of the price of new things, beautiful objects with lots of serviceable life. If you are concerned with the spirits of inanimate objects... think about it.... they have none. If a first owner has no use for an object is it not better to allow someone with a use to be able to buy and use it?

No. I buy all kinds of second-hand things. I drive a second-hand car, and read second-hand books. The shirt on my back was on someone else's first. I don't believe that one gets bad spirits from pre-owned items. If that were true, I'd be in trouble, because almost everything I had while growing up was second-hand.

That is ridiculous.
When your broke you live on second hand clothing and used items. There are no spirits in things but its a good excuse for not buying them!
When it comes down to it you make your own luck, you can wallow in self pity and call it bad, or you can thank God you are alive and can move forward in life, the joy is there if you look for it!

Time to grow up into an adult and set aside childish things.
Give your toys to OxFam or a similar charity shop. Less well-off children will appreciate your second-hand goods and won't worry in the slightest about bad spirits.

I have yet to have a bad experience with buying things second-hand, and I've been doing it for years. For a long time, almost everything I owned was second-hand. This is what happens when one can't borrow money from their parents. My mom was even worse off than I was, and she STILL is.
So I still buy a lot of things second-hand.

Nope I buy some of my stuff that way.
My very old Dining room set because they look great.
Some paintings, they are great.
Bookcases if they are nicely done.
Mostly hard items you can really clean up is what I like.
You'd be suprised at some of the things you can find that just aren't available today.

Most of my stuff is second hand but that is because I'm pretty poor.
Basically if its there the person left it for you to use.
Not to bring bad luck.
