Probably because they like messing with people who are serious about their beliefs. A lot of them are likely teenagers with no date on a Friday night.

Diane, I think it's a matter of MOOD. Some folks come onto R&S when they're in a sarcastic mood and love to lob in a ridiculous comment. Other come here to actualy participate in an open, honest discussion about our different beliefs. Others, I include myself in this category. Come to explore, enjoy ourselves and learn and teach a few folks some intersting stuff. When we come here we tend to play BOTH sides of the coin. We're funny and joking where it's appropriate and serious where THAT is appropriate. It's no different than in REAL, face to face, life. You'll run inot folks like that ALL over the place. Y!A is simply a small microcosm of our GENERAL society and so we should expect a sampling of that in here as well.

We're a mixed bunch here. Some are here just to just stir, some might normally be serious, but just be a whimsical mood or a question is phrased in an odd way - tempting a Word Smith to make a pun or 5.

to play around, to have fun, sometimes to preach (their answers never strike me as the slightest bit serious), for a variety of reasons.
Sometimes when a person has never given a serious answer, ever, they develop a rep and then others never take them seriously when they maybe DO answer seriously. So, the bottom line is, if you want to be taken seriously, read the question and consider it, respectfully and answer honestly if you want to be respected as a person who actually has something meaningful to say.
If not, then keep screwing around, we like entertainment too!

You get morons who think they are funny everywhere and inflict their tedious attempts at humour on the rest of us.
I'm told I have no sense of humour I certainly fail to see humour in fatuous coments and gross or silly behavior. I find the best thing to do is not react.

Because they probably do what I do. I don't "come to R&S", I look at the main screen from the top level and go into any question that seems even slightly interesting to me.
