A way to find out is to chat online at the Air Force website, or ask a recruiter. You can always check online to see if there is any precedent for disqualification for your question.

What is hydrocephalus?

As a recruiter for the AF Reserve we have strict guidelines dealing with medical conditions. As a rule, just about any type of surgery will disqualify you for military service. In most cases, I recommend to my applicants that they provide me with thorough documentation on the procedure and I have our medical folks review it. So if you seriously want to pursue joining the Air Force, I'd get copies of all of your medical records regarding the procedure and have it reviewed. This way you'll know for sure.

Well, I don't know if you're talking US or UK, but I do know that in the Royal Navy it can take a bloody long time to get to MAA. That's Chief Petty Officer level, and that isn't swift promotion no matter how good you are. Think you'd be better joining the Air Force, mate. You might get what you want a lot faster. But ships are pretty good, so long as you get a good bunch of mates around you.
