It has a strong flavor, but It's hard to describe. It makes a great soup. It definetely does not taste like Chicken. The SOftshell is kind of disgusting to eat. It's soft and gooeey and has alot of fat. I haven't had a hard shell for sometime. I think it's kind of fishy, so my mother poured alot of brandy to make it. I think beef might be the closest meat. They do make Mock turtle soup out of a veal's head in England. I do remeber loving to eat the eggs when I was young. If you want to eat turtle, I strongly suggest you just make soup and strain out the solids. I think I remember once seeing a green flap of skin floating in the soup.

It's really is worth a taste if you can get over the fact your eatting a turtle. It's best if someone makes soup for you so you won't see the turtle and to ask them to take out some of the less desirable parts.

Here in Ohio we eat it deep fried like chicken. Its really good. It doesn't really taste that much like chicken. Each part tastes different the tail and the legs are the best. Pretty good stuff.

Turtle tastes pretty good actually. I'm from Mississippi and we have turtle once in a while. My uncle cooks it really good in a big vat thing. He is a butcher and he knows how to cook it.

I can't imagine myself eating a turtle. I never saw them as a delicacy. Just the mere thought of it disgusts me. But I'd say chiken. Cause it seems that every wierd meat that people consumes, would turn out to taste like chiken. Well, according to those who eat them.
