I was caught speeding two years ago. It was a beautiful day, the highway went from one lane in each direction down a winding mountain road to a big, wide divided highway and I was just tooling along, paying no attention to how fast I was going until that blue light showed up in my rear-view mirror.

Since then, I use cruise control on that particular stretch of highway, which I travel several times a year.

Shermynewstart -- It takes a lot of guts to own up to that, and I'm proud of you for making it your last time for that offense.

Was in south FL 30 yrs. ago & had to make a left turn at about 2 in the morning (no traffic at that hour). There were 3 lanes on my side of the road & the center one was marked as the left turn lane. Thinking that was weird but obeying the markings, I got in the turn lane & turned. Next thing I knew I was being pulled over & given a ticket for turning from the wrong lane. Tried to reason with the officer but to no avail.
Showed up in court (along with 70+ others who had gotten a ticket from that same spot) & several folks had taken pictures of that intersection. The judge asked the officer if he had bothered to look at the markings himself & the officer hadn't.
Judge threw out ALL the cases & gave the officer a talking to. Officer left court room with egg on his face (so to speak).

I've had 2 tickets in my life. The last one was probably about 12 years ago. Somehow I got stuck driving from Atlanta back to Jacksonville, with the StepSonFromHades giving me a really hard time all the way. I didn't see the sign that showed reduced speed ahead, from 65 to 50, and a state trooper just sat their waiting for me. Sigh..........

They have drive through convenience stores in Florida. I was in line but there were a lot of cars in front of me and I was running out of gas. I decided I would get gas first and then come back for the stuff I needed. As I was leaving the parking lot, the blue light and sirens come on. The cop said that "I was avoiding an intersection", I told him, no, I was avoiding running out of gas. He wrote me up, I couldn't even start the car because I ran out of gas. I went to court and it was thrown out. That was in 1997
I got pulled over here in January for a noisy muffler,he gave me a ticket but said to just present the receipt. I showed him the receipt for $700.00 and the cop threw it out, I just met him outside the courthouse, so that was the end of that

was in the middle of 3 cars.. 2 in front and 1 in back..
we all were doing about 55 -60 in a 55 zone..
he picked me out of the 4 and sighted me for 65 ina 55
since he was a cop .. his word was as it was from god..
this wasn't the first time i got a ticket for speeding when i wasn't...
my choice was ether pay the 120$ fine or
take a day off from work.. cost me 200 for that
a lawyer.. another 300.. and if i lose. .the 120 for the fine
i have no respect for cops at all..

I haven't had a moving violation for 27 years but got a ticket for an expired Inspection Sticker 5 years ago.

I'm going to be more honest that a lot of other people who have read this question & maybe not answered. I had a DUI 6 or 7 years ago. No one was hurt. It hasn't happened again.

I think it was in 1985 for running a red light - I was a new driver and was not familiar with traffic lights being on the side of the street instead of overhead.

Hey Dragon...we have left turn only lanes up here in Canada. If we have a six lane roadway, the 7th center lane is designated as "left turns only" in either direction. The only time they become a problem is when the cars wanting to turn left going in the opposite direction from you, completely block you access to making a left turn opposite to theirs. Then you get to block a whole lane of traffic waiting for an opening to get into the left turn lane.

As to my last driving violation...it would have to be April of 1989. We had just had the last ice storm of the season, and I had to go to the bank to make a payment on a loan. The sun was out and shining...the roads had been plowed. Unfortunately that was a very bad combination for intersections that were just on the edge of being shaded out by overhanging structures and open to the brisk (cold) winds. The perfect conditions for "black ice". I hit a patch of it, just after turning a corner (just at the edge of the sunlight to the shade) and the car spun out with absolutely no warning. I clipped the fender of the car in the inside lane beside me as the car spun uncontrollably, finally coming to rest facing the correct way again on the outside curb.

There was nothing wrong with the tread on my tires (checked by the police officer). The guy I hit testified to the fact that we were only going about 20 km/hr at the time, because we had started from a stop position for the red light, just before the turn (two lane left turn) and I was lagging half a car length behind him in the turn, so I wasn't driving inappropriately for the conditions....it was just my bad luck that there was a patch of black ice right there (chewed up by the passage of other vehicles before the cop got there to look two hours later).

I paid to have the other guys car fixed at the garage of his choice...$1200 (which was completely excessive, but hey!). My damage came to only $150 to replace the headlight housing and to fix the scrape on my bumper.

There were all sorts of accidents happening all over during that time because of that last storm, and all of those weren't written up for points...just called uncontrollable accidents and sent to the insurance companies for claims. But the cop sited me for improper procedure (claiming that I took the corner in an unsafe manner). And driving too fast for the conditions.

The guy I hit testified in court...exactly the same thing he had said to the cop to begin with. Then the retired police man I had hired to argue the case in court submitted a list of accidents that had happened at that very same spot in that intersection before and after mine that day (one before--two after), in exactly the same way, and in each case had been written off as "circumstances beyond the driver's control". The judge threw the case out. I never lost my six points. And the cop DID NOT look at all pleased with the outcome.

my last ticket was in 1984. the cop said i ran a stop sign, but i didn't. it was one of those where you can't see if you stop even with the stop sign and since i was very familiar with this street, i just pulled on up to where i could see. he was a real stickler about it - you are supposed to stop even with the sign and then creeeeeep up to where you CAN see and stop AGAIN - most ridiculous thing i ever heard of.
but i took my ticket and went on my merry way, because if i had gotten out of the car he probably could have gotten me for dui and then i would have spent the night in jail
