Several times I've posted about extremist behaviour by a certain type of christian and to my dismay though not surprise even though I thought I had indicated in various posts I am Christian I've had people ask if I was born again or the latest if I have had a "salvation" experience?

For the record I am baptised and confirmed Anglican Protestant tho I do joke about being Zen Catholic.

I do bible study every Sunday and read the Bible in English Greek and Latin and promote the balance of faith and reason.

So fundies and other fanatics why do you think educated moderate female scholars like me are not Christians?

Gee could it be cos I try to use my philosophical training to make people think?

If you think thats Un Christian let me remind you St Paul told people to "Examine Everything".

Why do you think I'm not Christian?

"Brother" Earth Angel and Josie the Lord was addressing Jews when he used those verse.

Are either of you familiar with the words of the Anglican Confirmation?

Do you and others believe extra ceremonies are necessary?

Is that sound protestant doctrine!?

That's what they believe.
They don't think I'm a Christian either. But it doesn't bother me a bit - they have their beliefs, and I have mine. I only wish that there were another term that one of us could use in order to emphasize the fact that we belong to two different religions, and not just to two different denominations of the same religion. Fortunately, they represent less than 10% of the Christian population.

I Found The Anglican Church Far Too Judgemental My Friend In Christ. I Am An Adherent With The Salvation Army And We Do Not Preach Down To People, We Merely Explore God's Truth With Our Congregations And Give Hope To Those Lost In Addiction Be It To Alcohol, Drugs Or Gambling. If We Where Judgemental Most Of The People We Reach Out To Would Run A Million Miles!
I Too Dismay At Being Asked If I'm Born Again!
I'm A Christian And Have Been Since I Was Baptised In The Holy Spirit 21 Years Ago (Half A Life Time).

you say that you study the bible in English , Greek and latin- then you should know the answer to this question yourself. In scripture it says, YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN.
John 3:6-8.
6Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
I cannot understand people that say that they read the bible so much , but yet miss something like this. You say that you are an anglican protestant, and you say that you are not a Christian. Why don't you want to be a born again believer? Could it be that you choose not to repent so that Christ can save you? Knowing the bible backwards and forwards does not save you- and since you said that we don't have to be born again, it looks like you may not know the bible as well as you say you do.

Perhaps it's the way you call your brothers and sisters "extremists" and "fundies," and scorn the things that they bring up rather than address them. Jesus Christ, your Lord? said, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again" (John 3:3). And, "You must be born again" (John 3:7).
That's the Christian's Christ's wording for a converted soul. Is there a problem with that?

It's great to study Scripture as well as read philosophy, but have you given your life to Christ? God and you only know, so if you heed Paul's words to "examine everything", then heed his other admonition, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith" (2 Cor 13:5).

"live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God" (1 Peter 2:16-17).

Additional:
I am not sure your point about Jesus specifically telling a Jew He must be born again, as if it wouldn't apply to gentiles as well? Peter addressed his mixed Jew-gentile audience thus;
"For you have been BORN AGAIN, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God" (1Pet 1:23). And yes, have seen the Anglican material, and this phrase is in the baptismal ritual, "Guide and strengthen us by the same Spirit, that we who are BORN AGAIN may serve you in faith." Not generally Jews joining the Anglican church I don't imagine, although there must be some. Nonetheless, you must recognize there is a difference in saying you are an astronaut and actually being one who travels to outer space. That is the only point with the born-again thing. We are born naturally of our parents, and to a life of sin without God. When we receive Christ and He is at work in our hearts, a change occurs. A struggle begins. A struggle to conform to the image of Christ. That is born again. It is a new birth followed by a new life of growth and development in another direction, the direction of holiness. Frankly, I am not as concerned with who wrote which particular liturgy to have us recite in our various denominations as I am with what the Bible specifically calls us to. It is the fact that we grow in community that we have so many liturgies that we could live with, but the concern is how true is our relationship to God. It's not a matter of saying the right cultic phrase or jumping through some religious hoops with chanting and candles thus guaranteeing our place in heaven. It's all Christ, and our being born again of Him.

I don't recall every saying you were not a Christian. As to born again that comes from Christ as does salvation. There are really only two groups that claim to be Christians that I dispute. That is the mormons and the JW's. I believe Catholics and anglicans are saved. I do think Catholics have allowed man's tradition to infect the church but not to the extent that they are not saved.

To you what does it man to be a Christian?

If i means anything other than accepting Christ as a personal savior and Lord then you have to do some more looking because your philosophical training dos very little. Anything else doesn't matter but unless you do that then you are not a Christian. I do not judge you because of your denomination or gender o other beliefs because it does not matter unless you have the basic principle down.

I don't use the phrase born-again - has different meaning to different people. My view is that a Christian is a person who has the indwelling Holy Spirit and thereby believes that Christ is God, that he resurrected from the dead (and is alive today) and was born of a virgin (establishing his sinless nature)
1 Corinthians 3:16; '... do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?'
Romans 8:9; '... however, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.’:

If you have not accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior then you are not a Christian. You can call your self anything you like, but that will not change the truth.

Where do you think the word CHRISTian came from?

A born returned Christian is whilst somebody makes a decision to alter their existence-form and grow to be a non secular Christian. this suggests that they are going to be committed to the Christian Church and faith, following it very heavily. maximum people that are "born returned" have had stricken lives previous to this variation.

You told me your are not. Having read the Bible you have read Jesus statement unless a person be born again he can not enter the Kingdom. Jesus also stated No one comes to the Father except by me. Unless you have asked Jesus into your heart acknowledge Jesus as savior and confess your sins you are not born again. You also should have read that many who thought they were Christians will be cast out as God states depart from me I knew you not.
