Well, i have been taught that secrets keep you sick. And by saying this, i mean that secrets are always seemed to be stored in the deepest darkest recesses of our minds.
By shedding some light on the subject, getting it out in the open and acknowledging our fears, it takes away their power to control us....
Not to mention it also helps to get proper perspective on the situation and examine why it is you fear what you do....for me, that involves putting it down on paper, taking a look at it and sharing it with a trusted friend...I ususally find that it's just not as bad as i had imagined it to be.
just my humble pagan thoughts....

Usually if it is dark and you need to turn on a light, it must be night,. Pick your pillows hide your head under it,
tell the bogeyman, " you're not there, you're not exist", until you get to sleep.
By the time you wake up, I am sure the big light out there is on by itself, get into your room through somewhere around your window.
You find, your nose and your ear are still there, ooooough, bogeyman is just an illusion.
Once you know it, you never scared of it anymore.
So is life ........
During the darkness, just close your mind from any fear, keep doing what you have to do, you'll find that whatever scared you, is not there.
What you find is reality, deal with it accordingly.
Ofcourse, as we grow older, we think different. But, dont let the bogeyman haunting you.
How is New York ??
My sister lives there tho .

Enlightenment comes through knowledge. Through knowledge we receive answers; through answers we can experience; through our experiences we acquire balance.
Turn on the light by thinking, feeling, changing and growing. This engenders the evolution of our souls, and as we evolve the bogeyman de-evolves.
Also, we would be well served to remember that fear has no power in the face of Love.
(BTW, the first and last bogeyman movie I watched was the original Halloween ... never again. I slept with the lights on for YEARS.)

She obviously has never been blind.
How do I overcome that irrational fear? A memory. A certain memory. I once used to believe there were alligators under my bed.
So when I needed to get up to go to the bathroom, I would creep to the very end of the bed nearest the door and crouch, then take a mighty leap and quickly turn to look behind me to see if anything was chasing me.
On the way back to bed, I would stand at the doorway for a long moment, eyeing the edge of my bed, and being very quiet so that the alligators would not realize I was there until too late, and then at the right moment, take another great leap back onto my bed.
I live in Canada, there are no alligators. So I developed the strategy of taking a (very brave) peek under the bed beforehand to ascertain that there were indeed NO alligators WHATSOEVER under my bed, then quickly slip out of bed and go to the bathroom. I really had to force myself to do this, and often had dust bunnies in my hair.
One night, while taking the leap back into bed, (there was no way to check beforehand on the way back if the alligators were indeed there, so I still did the leaping), it so happened, that I fell short of the mark, and landed on the claw-side of a set of suspenders that were left on the floor (I was not very good at keeping things off my floor).
The result was a deep wound on my foot, a great deal of blood and pain, and a sudden realization that there were absolutely and with great certainty NO ALLIGATORS under my bed. I felt so foolish that I don't think I told anyone about the wound I had taken to the foot until many years had passed.

The bogeyman is on the left side where all love to hide behind curtains of the darkness.
The only way you can turn on the light is to look to the right path.. Try reading another book!

You call the bogeyman's bluff. You say to it, "I think you're nothing but a really, really bad idea that got stuck in my head. I double-dog dare you to hit me with lightening or otherwise assert yourself." When nothing happens, you can know for sure that the bogeyman was just an imaginary creature and you're free to go on with your life, sans bogeyman...

I ask questions. Some answers can be enlightening. Also, answering questions requires looking into your own knowledge, and clearing the debri (trivia) away from what you already know. Giving an answer requires focus, a lot like focusing a spot light.

Once you learn the dark, you lose the fear and you can see better than you can in the light. I embrace the dark for it exposes the light. Dark is not bad, just different, else.

I assume you mean metaphorical light, not physical. The lamp in the bedroom, and like that.
I turn on my light by reading, sharing with others (including right here), thinking, meditation, and any way that increases my capabilities to do those things. That would include my visits to my doctor, the prescriptions she writes, the exercise I force myself to get, etc

I go back in my mind to the moment they placed my new born son on my chest. He just stared at me with such a look of wisdom and peace, yet he wasn't even breathing yet. It was kind of like that moment between waking and dreaming where you don't know if it's real or not. It was as if He had just stepped into this realm of existence but still had one foot in the realm of spirit.
All it takes is for me to envision that moment, and the wisdom of the ages shining in his eyes shatters all negativity surrounding me as if The Maker were looking at me through those beautiful, innocent eyes.
