It would have to be the egg. I mean, how could a full grown rooster just appear out of nowhere. Maybe the egg wasn't laid, but formed over time.

On the theological point of view when God created the lowest form of animal, all creature are created on their natural matured conditon for multiplication. Meaning, it was the rooster and hen comes first before the egg.
