do you think that god gives troops or individual soldiers divine protection?
in a way, i can't see god giving some people protection and letting others die by chance.
does being a christian increase your odds of god helping you or protecting you?
If not, does that mean that praying for an individuals safety will probably not bring him god's protection?

uh, yeah... god protects the soldiers... just not the ones that get killed because they didn't pray hard enough, obviously.

God does protect individual people, but sometimes he does not. He makes up his own mind who he wants to protect or not, but asking him does also help because he will do some things when asked that he won't otherwise. He wants us to interact with him.

Being a Christian only increases your odds of God helping you if you are obeying God and doing his will. God also protects non-Christians too, since God is the God of the whole world, and not just the God of Christians.

God also helps evil people because he loves his enemies.
"But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."
Matthew 5:44-45

I think this is a bit of an odd question, but I'll try answering. I did a lot of praying when I was in Iraq, as did my family for me. However, if I had died, I don't think anyone should have blamed God or me or my family for lack of belief or prayers. Ask the question outside of life. If a man walks outside and gets hit by a bus, does that mean he wasn't a prayerful man? Does that mean God wasn't protecting him? Death is a part of life. Everyone dies someday, no matter how hard you pray.
I think prayer helps one to feel closer to God and to give a person peace. I wouldn't have blamed God if I had died, and I think I would've been pissed (from beyond the grave?) if anyone else had.
So no, I don't think being Christian helps your odds. I think having a faith gives you mental, emotional, and sometimes physical strength. I think it gives you peace and helps your friends and family sleep at night.
I do think that God does hear the prayers. I don't know how many times I was crouched down going "Dear God, please protect us." I had many close calls, and to everyone I gave thanks to God. But I think it was a thanks that it wasn't my time yet. Because if I had to think otherwise, then why would God chose to save me over my friend?
Its just the nature of war. Some people live, some people die. Its sad, but, as the saying goes "there is nothing to fear in war but war itself."
So again, people are going to die in war. No amount of praying is going to stop that. God gave us free will, even if that free will is to kill each other on the battle field.

Being a Christian doesnt keep you "safe"
1a) Jesus was the best human being that ever lived, and God sent him to the cross.
1b) When "christianity" sinned against God in the crusades, Gods wrath against Europe was to remove the church. The plague killed many people, but it removed 4 times more of those orders of priests who served the sick and suffering. It didn't remove the religion, it removed the love.

The church, the true church, those who live their lives as best that Jesus of the bible, and a holy, loving God, would have them, exists to bring Gods love to this dark world. Nobody who brings light to darkness isnt punished for it. No truly deeply good deed goes unpunished in this world. Anyone who knows true light, and knows this world knows that. Christians dont live to be safe...

God answers prayer. Sometimes he answers no. He sometimes answers yes. Everything he does, or doesnt do... every act of his intentionality is deeply good.

God is not fire insurance.

I love it when people respond to a question like this, that it is not fair to blame god, who created it all, but has no interference. God knows how many days John Doe has to live, he'll die in 2996. Freewilly blocks god from telling George Bush it would be an idiotic move to invade Iraq, whoops, someone dropped the paper.
God has not talked to me or any one else. Is he going to tell me something about my son in Iraq? No. You people forget religion, continue to support troops, american people, and needy people. People helping people, that counts. There are intelligent beings above us, but I think they are aware of our primitive agression.

God is too busy trying to protect the Iraqi people from certain American soldiers who find it amusing to kill innocent people for fun. Unfortunately, since this is happening at a large scale, God cannot save them all.

Simply put it this way: whoever has faith in God, God will protect them. It's not you or me who is going to affect how our troops do in Iraq. It's all up to themselves.

2 issues: evaluate the previous testomony (there have been a user-friendly form of wars with God's direction there) Sarah has a SON over there (till or except you do, WHAT can supply the main appropriate to question her)... EDIT: i'm not sure if RC's are allowed to examine the previous testomony, in case you're (or ask a clergyman) you will see MANY battles against countries that God directed his human beings and his own direct intervention. in case you have served in the militia at you DO need to criticize yet another man or woman serving, having served or one in all their parents...my purple meat is with people who have not yet by some skill evaluate themselves the two determination makers and commanders...

God might give protection to who is not a believer of God, and might also makes his life easier, but that is fair because that person has no right to ask God for forgiveness in the Judgment day.
US troops in Iraq aren't there for other than oil / money tho.

Isn't there a saying "all men are Christians in the trenches."
I bet everyone of our men and women who died prayed to some kind of God before they died. Funny how they didn't seem to have strong enough "faith" to win the right to go home to their families. And yet, when a rare occasion happens and someone is saved, it is a "miracle"
Sounds more like circumstance.
