Stacie,
I can see the argument from both sides. You could choose to make time to do some tv time when the kids are napping or asleep at night.
Does your brother in law work a full time job? Does he help around the house when not watching tv/playing Playstation? I'm guessing the answer is no. I do not know if it's normal, but I'm going to say that if he's not working/helping around the house, you should demad some help. I'm going on the assumtion he's living with you. If he's not, then let him live his life. If he chooses to be a couch potato, he'll miss out on the finer points of life such as children.

I think you envy his freedom. Yoou have 3 kids and he I'm guessing doesn't.
I'm the same way, while only 26 I have been playing video games basically since I was 5 or so (yeah Nintendo NES). I imagine I will play video games my whole life. I went to college and make a lot of money (which now supports my vido game habit even more). Other than playing sports (baseball, flag football, and going to the gym)and work, video games are what I like to do the most. They are fun and they don't hurt anyone and I'm not out drinking at bars and wasting it on stupid things like restaraunts and alcohol. I buy 1, maybe 2 games a month and thats it.
This is totally normal now-a-days and there are much worse habits in the world. As long as he is not getting fat I would say leave him alone.
I don't thinkyou are too old I just think you get annoyed at someone who clearly seems to not have as much responsibility as you. But being a mom is a wicked important job so you don'thave time for video games. Keep up being a good Mom and if you ever get some free time go over your Brother in Laws place and relax!
Take care.

I think he needs a job lol. Seriously he does sound like he needs something more to do. Yeah I play games or watch TV most of the day, but work 3rd shift so hard to find much else that would be better to do. I do have friends though and hang out with them on Saturdays. To be honest though nothing wrong with enjoying games if you have some life outside of that. If it isn't holding you back and you can interact with people when you need to then I'd say you are alright.

Here's a fact...VIDEO GAMES ARE TOO ADDICTING! I can't blame him for playing video games at that age but he should really start getting to work. Video games are taking you to a whole other world of imagination and no rules, that's why it's so addicting. I'm not saying it's bad to play video games but he shouldn't do it too much either, for tons of reasons. Hopefully they don't get too futuristic with video games or it's possible video games rule the world! The future is a mystery, and good luck with your brother in law, oh and by the way, you're definitely not too old! GOOD LUCK!

Who is to say what's normal? If the guy isn't hurting himself or anybody else, just let him be. Technology has changed so much in the past 20 years that video games aren't limited to little kids anymore. And even back when it WAS limited to little kids, your brother-in-law was part of the generation it was geared towards.

I think it's completely normal nowadays, and I bet it will be even more common with people born around my age range (I'm 19) as they get older I could seriously see myself playing video games until I die, I just love playing my PS3.
I remember one time on a television show called Dr. 90210 that comes on E!, Dr. Linda Li's husband was playing video games and he is in his 40's!!
I think that it's totally fine for someone his age to be still playing video games.

in every life there are segments of time devoted to their function. responsibilities are allotted the majority of time. recreation has it's place, entertainment, it's place. and so on.
if your brother-in-law spends every waking moment on the boob tube and that game, there is an imbalance. the adage "candy is meant to be a treat, not the whole diet" comes to mind. this man needs a reality check and if my little adage sheds some light on this crapola.i'm glad i could help.
