i have a lab experiment, and we're just testing the pH in diff. household substances like juice, fabric softener, etc, but i was just thinking bout' ammonia. WITH GOGGLES on, can ammonia have any effect on me WHILE im wearing contacts?

no, but it smells really bad!! You can put ammonia in laundry to kill nasty bacteria. well we do at work anyway. WAIT. Don't go mixing that stuff with anything,

A lot of the labs forbid wearing contact lenses because irritating fumes etc may become trapped between the lens and the eye causing serious problems. If you school doesn't have any policy about it, and you're worried, you could wear glasses that day. I don't think the amount of ammonia you would be using would cause a problem unless people are slopping it everywhere untill the place is reeking of it. If you do wear your contact lenses, try to stay out of the fumes as much as possible, because the goggles don't seal air-tight.

The goggles will stop the splash but not the fumes. I'd be more worried about breathing it. If you feel nervous, take out your lenses and clean them afterwards.

The fumes are very strong depending upon the brand.
