Not enough water. Try to make sure your dog always has a full bowl of water no matter what. I fill my Rottie's water dish at least ten times a day. He's a very thirsty boy.

Dark yellow urine, or even bright colored yellow urine is a sign of a bladder infection. A strong smelling urine can mean that there is an over popluation of bacteria in her urine that is causing a bladder infection. there is nothing over the counter that will help her with this. Is she having accidents in the house, or urinating frequently outside? I would call the vet, and have a urine sample checked as she may need antibiotics. "Mountain dew" colored urine could also be a sign of extremly concentrated urine. It may be normal for her. If she is drinking more, or grooming her vulva more, then she should be checked by a vet. It prob does not have anything to do with the food she is on. Good luck to you.

Um, just because a dog doesn't drink water doesn't mean it's not dehydrated. Your dog's urine should only be slightly yellow- if it's really dark, it's concentrated. I would take her to the vet. It DOES sound as if she is dehydrated.

Pls. have a vet check her urine and perhaps blood work.
I know in the later stages of renal failure, when kidney's not working, that the urine is very pale,...not filtering the impurities.
The yellow shows the kidney's are working, but perhaps the dark yellow and strong odor are another problem.

You really need to have her seen by your Vet. She could have a urninary tract infection and needs to be on antibiotics. The dark and strong smelling urine often is an indication of an infection.

Make sure she has fresh water to drink every day or twice a day. She's probably not drinking enough water.
