I'm tired of people pretending that their religious beliefs contain not violence. The bible is full of horrible stories of stoning that was set as law by God. I don't care if it was in the 'old testament', God still wanted people killed back then, sometimes innocent children. This God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New one. Iran has stoned children for being raped. Why do people deny the harm that religion does?

They simply ignore those passages and focus on the ones they like. In truth the bible advocates murder, child abuse, etc.

They are not using the Bible as their justification for stoning in Iran, they are using the Qua ran...There is horrible stories in a religions...However, the underlying themes if you really read the Bible is not about hurting people, but healing and loving. There were strict laws in the Old Testament...they were to be followed by the Jewish people..You are right , that the God of the O.T. is the same as the God of the N.T. because God never changes, he is, and always will be the same. However, the laws for man to commune(for lack of a better word) ARE different. Jesus was the atonement for our sins....we no longer need animal sacrifices...to confess our sins to a priest etc. Also in the Bible there is not a story about stoning a woman who was raped however, there is a story about the man who raped a woman and all of the men in his "tribe" being murdered...

First off this question rocks!!! star for you...

And now for the answer: Religeon was not a creation by god, nor was the bible. They were all created by man in order to use god to control the masses and wield the most possible power. God is so cool though, he is just kicking back and watching all these people make fools of themselves. Religeon for God is kinda like a sitcom. Sometimes he enjoys drama, sometimes horror flicks, but religeon keeps him entertained.

I can't speak for you, but I haven't heard of a stoning in recent years except from extremists. My religious freedom ends where your rights begin, and I do not have the right to stone someone. I can't help what Iran allows (not that I'm happy with it); the only person whose behavior I can change is my own.

Nail His Head!

"Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died." (Judges 4:21)
Comment

In verse 16 the Israelites surprise Sisera's army and that "there was not a man left," except Sisera who deserts his army and flees, a deed punishable by court martial today. Sisera then goes to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber. Jael takes him in, hides him under a blanket, gives him milk to quench his thirst, and promises to stand guard at the door while he sleeps. Then Jael kills Sisera!

We see no telling of the slightest shame, but rather, Jael proudly flaunts her kill. The author of this piece of Scripture makes it clear that the passage represents a deed, not only as grand and heroic but also consistent with the will of God (see Judges 4:23).

I guess there's a whole world full of hypocrites who don't practice what they preach. If they truly believe their bible is 100% infallible and 'God' breathed, then by all means, there should be public stonings on a daily basis.

ole baby b...please ask yourself.....would the absence OF religion be any different......people will still try to hurt each other....atleaset with religion...people will feel guilty, for stealing, murdering etc...its a lesser evil if you may....as opposed to not having such rules....

I know you'd be thinking like what about the LAW and its RULES....letme ask you this...even though its illegal to pirate music and movies...people still do it....and people who do pirate them...and people who buy and use pirated contents, don't feel guilty....as they go for the robin hood senicrio.....as would people who steal...etc.....but with religion atleast the double set of rules will causepeople to rethink....how many people have ACTUALLY been stoned....?.....a very very small number of people.....but how many rapes, roberies...and murders have BEEN prevented...?....you would never know...

Religion truely IS the LESSER evil....

Oops, your faith is wavering today. Jehovah God sent Jesus to make it right because it wasn't working out with His people from the OT because they started to blow everything out of proportion and rebelled like naughty children. Jesus came to redeem us from our sins and teach us how to's, why to's, must have's love. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. No more killings, no more hatreds (hate borns all evil).
Agreed with Troll.
