So i have been working at a grocery store for over 3 years and we have a baler. You put cardboard in the machine and after about 2 or 3 days of filling it up it requires to be manual wired up and thrown outside until a truck comes and picks it up. Do grocery store owners get paid for these? they weigh a few hundred pounds

Yes the store gets paid for the cardboard.
Did you ever notice how grocery stores dont have boxes to give out any more? That is because all cardboard is bailed and sold. From there it goes to recycled. It all adds up the checks are fairly large.
