He puts his feet inbetween the plastic bars & lifts himself out.. How can I stop him? I thought the pen was high enough, but didn;t think he'd figure out he can climb out.. What can I do? If he runs around, he chews up cords etc.. I don't want to keep him caged in a small cage, which is why I bought the puppy pen.. Help. I tried using duct tape but he just chewed it off.

put a muzzle on him, or tether him to a ball and chain.

How long is he left alone? I never wanted to crate my puppies either, and it was so awful when I did they would cry and want to get out... but now they LOVE their crates. It is like their own little bedroom. If you don't want to get a taller pen, this is a good idea. It is really tough to do, but once they learn their crate, they love it. Promise :)

Mine though are only left in their crates a couple hours every week... but the end up sleeping in their (with the door open)

They sell large pens that have tops to them, or get one of those "pens" that people let their babies play in so they can't get into anything. Of course finding a durable one would be the issue there. But I do know they sell pens with tops to them, and you can see right into them so it's not like the puppy would be locked up in a box. They are made of some metal fence like stuff. Try a PetSmart or Petco. Those stores rock!

You could get a taller pen. I think they come as high as three feet. He's just a puppy, so you probably won't have any luck training him to stay put.

need tobuy a pen. with a top on it.. I place my dog in a pen when no one will be home with him because he has the episodes were he will get destructive.. so best of luck and get that pen before the poor thing electrocutes himself.. cant afford one get a board big enough to cover the top of your pen and place something heavy on it so he cannot lift it off..

Sounds like you have ONE clever little dog there... Buy him a Leash from the Pet Store that reaches ONLY as far as you want him to go, & tie it to where you want him to stay (while you're at that Store -you might ALSO want to get him a little rawhide doggy bone to chew on, so he won't chew through the Leash!). Good luck keeping him "contained." :)
