So I went to enlist in the Coast Guard and they turned me down due to tattoo's on my forearm. I have three nautical stars and they are not that big, I don't think they cover more than 25% of my arm. I guess what I'm getting at is that why If I'm willing to go out there and die saving someones life or doing something good, should my tattoo's be used to judge my qualifications. That is truly sad! I understand trying to look professional or what not but come on, turn some one down because they have tattoo's, really stupid.

Its annoying that some workplaces choose to turn people down because of tattoos or peircings! I know alot of people covered in tattoos and peircings and there the nicest, friendliest people in the world. They strugled to get a job but once they did there bosses found out that they worked just as hard as the next person.
Its just an annoying stereotype that if you have a tattoo or peircing, your going to come to work late, do a half assed job and scare people off.. definatly not true, but it might take you a little bit longer to find a job. But you wouldnt want to work for someone that always wanted you to cover up your tattoo and thought you were a bad *** for it? I wouldnt!
Good luck with the job hunting!

Are they seriously turning down people with tattoos?! Do they know how common tattoos are today?!? If I'm drowning in the middle of the ocean, I can assure you, I don't care what you have on your forearms, as long as you help me.

I could understand if the tattoos were offensive, but I think it's silly to turn anyone and everyone that has a noticeable tattoo.

This is a NEW rule that's spreading across the Military... It turns out, that certain GANGS have been infiltrating the Armed Forces & C.G., -and it's members are identifying each other by their Tattoos! The Military wants to put a STOP to this- so they're banning them. It IS "sad", but that's the World we live in... :(

That is ridiculous.

My best friend is in the Navy, and he's been over in Iraq almost two years. He has, oh I'd say over 25 tattoos now.

I have to agree with you. The Army is now letting people join with tattoos on their hands and neck, for crying out loud!

thats really messed up...It shouldn't matter what someones skin had inked on it, it should matter what they are willing to do. I just hope that i am never passed up bc of my tattoo's...Trust me, i understand the professional look and everything but that just shouldn't matter in my opinon...I am really sorry that they turned you down.

I completely agree.

And they're always complaining about how enlistment numbers are down. Maybe if they weren't so worried about how their troops looked, and more about how smart and driven they are, there wouldn't be such a problem.
