The Bible is a book for 3 different eras and different rules for the people of each time. The first era was where God spoke through the family fathers. The second was for a select groupe of people only, the Jews. The third is what is found in the New Testament and directed toward Christians. They goofed when they placed certain things in the Old Testament and New Testament. 4 books in the New Testament was about the Old Testament or Law of Moses era.

The Bible tells us how to have a happy and fulfilling life.

I could list hundreds but I'll limit myself to the 10 you requested so I can also address your other questions...
From John 3:16...
1. God loves you
2. You will not perish
3. God wants to give you eternal life
From Matthew 6:25-34
4. God doesn't want you to be burdened with worry
5. He will take care of all your needs if you seek to live as he wants you to live.
From Eph. 3:20 and Phil. 4:13
6. God can do more than you can ask or imagine
7. God will make you strong
8. You can have the power to do things you can't imagine.
From 1 Cor. 13
9. Love never fails...and clear instructions for identifying "real love".
10. Through love we will eventually obtain perfect knowledge and understanding of everything.

I believe the entire bible is part of "God's Word".

The rules you follow today are the rules that God writes on your heart when you accept the gift of the Holy Spirit...the bible promises that if you seek, you will find...if you seek the truth in the bible you will find it for yourself.

Why so thick, because it tells a 6,000 or so year story line about God's relationship with his creation...through Adam and Eve, then through Noah, then through Abraham, and finally through Jesus.

As far as why it is a story book...Jesus often used parables (short stories) to teach lessons to people that were open to learn the lesson...people that weren't open, couldn't understand the message. I think the entire bible works the same way. Stories can contain so many more lessons than a book of dry facts...stories can provide clues to human behavior, provide historical context, and frankly, are a lot more interesting to read than a rule book would be!

If you accept on faith that the bible is the Word of God and study it from this perspective, taking your questions to God, he will speak DIRECTLY TO YOU through the bible. In this way, the bible is sometimes more appropriately called, "the living word of God". The bible isn't just a collection of stories...with the correct attitude (faith), God will make the stories come alive for you to show you solutions to current problems/issues in the stories of people that faced similar issues thousands of years ago.

Well it's not a story book that is for sure.

he will be the father to the fatherless
he will restore you
he will protect you under the shadow of his wings
he will never forsake you
Jesus died for our sins
he will vindicate us
he will provide for us
he created us
he loves us
he will give unto us more than we would our children
rejoice in the Lord
Praise the Lord
Give thanks unto the Lord
He created the earth, heavens, day and night and all that lives on the earth.
he gave us free will
he gave us guardinship over the earth
he made the flowers, the sun and the moon for our pleasure

Oh dear I could go on and on but untl your other questions. Yes the book is thick and the entire book is God's word so I don't udnerstand that question. Most rules aren't being followeed because somene who does'nt believe was offened by it some how. But there are a lot of people that still follow it as well.

Personally if u need to have him answer these questions u have insecurities yourself. There are no handbooks out there to make marriages last. U need to work out the kinks before hand.Go to your paster and have some marriage counseling done before u play with this questions idea. Marriage is not a light step and is suppose to be till death. U need a best friend, a lover, afather to children, a provider, etc. Someone who will be commited to your relationship, not run in trobled times and men are great saying yea, yea! You both need to grow at the same time within the relationship because its ever changing and the bible is very hard in the real world. Life would be great if we could work with people that believe in the same things as us but its not happening. I hope u get the pic and see your pastor on this before playing with the por guys mind, remember he loves u and of course men are taught to answer what they think we want to hear.

Hope, joy, peace, comfort, instruction on living, salvation, strength, answered prayers, wisdom, and love.
It is a story book, but the stories are true. It's thick because God felt we needed to know the information contained in it. The rules consist of these two - love the Lord with all your heart and soul and mind and your neighbor as yourself.

The God Yahweh wrote the first five books of the Bible, Torah and The Dead Sea Scrolls as science books for mankind to follow in order to survive on Earth. The rest of the Old Testament contains history books that tell the stories of what happened to the generations of God's nation that either listened to Him or turned their backs on Him. But the advanced scientific instructions God originally wrote in The Laws of Moses never changed. The people were always forced to go back to following them in their original form and meaning. What ever changes over time mankind made with them God would always force mankind to go back to following God's laws in their original meaning. Which He is about to do again.

10 Good Things From the Bible:

#1 - God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule overthe fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." (Genesis 1:28)

#2 - "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)

#3 - Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment. (Matthew 17:18)

#4 - Then they brought him a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, and Jesus healed him, so that he could both talk and see. (Matthew 12:22)

#5 - But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

#6 - Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. (Matthew 5:5)

#7 - The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." (John 11:44)

#8 - And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. (Revelation 20:10)

#9 - Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:10)

#10 - All men will hate you because of me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. (Mark 13:13)

1) The paper will work to roll a joint in a pinch.

2) It can be used for toilet paper in a pinch.

3) You can comb through for all the contradictions that drive the fundies crazy.

4) Thousands of reasons to not believe in god.

5) Evidence for how primitive our society was 2,000 years ago.

6) Evidence for just how stupid fundies are for trying to force that primitive thinking on us in the form of theocratic laws.

7) Evidence for how far some people in society can evolve from the pit of ignorance and superstition.

8) Evidence for how far women have come in society by throwing off the chains that the bible requires them to wear as the man's chattel.

9) Evidence of how far society has come by being able to dismiss the barbaric behavior of slavery as was justified in the bible.

And Finally...

10) The proof that the 10 commandments are not laws in which the Laws of the United States are derived from. Since only 2.5 commandments share similar denial of behavior or criminal action by law. Thou Shall Not Kill, Thou Shall Not Steal and thou shall not lie - but that is only when under oath - so that counts as 1/2 a law.

“You shall have no other gods before Me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
8 “ Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
12 “ Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.” Ex. 20:3-17
