Worth a visit. Very haunting, especially the room where the young girl's shost is said to dwell. People leave dolls for her--they are tons of them lying about...
There are other interesting tunnels under Edinburgh too, also haunted. I had a rather spooky experience in one of them
And if you go, you mustn't miss Greyfriars graveyard (JUST UP THE ROAD)--scariest place EVER!!

Mary King's Close is a narrow, cobbled lane in Edinburgh. It is named after a former landowner. In 1645 the close was sealed off because bubonic plague was rife in Edinburgh, and anyone who lived there had to fend for themselves. When the plague had gone, people were allowed to go back to live in the close, but they reported strange happenings, such as ghostly appearances, feelings of coldness, etc. and many people moved out. The close is hidden beneath City Chambers, and it can be visited on an organised tour. Even today, some strange experiences have been reported, such as the weeping of a young girl, when no girl can be seen. A tour costs £8. See website www.realmarykingsclose.com
