(yes i know i spelled definatly wrong, who cares)
Time after time I have tried to get the "open-minded" Christians to see our side of the story, and failed miserably. So(this is for those of Christians that blame other religions and get annoyed with our presense, u know who u are..) for my next attempt, I am wanting to do a little "step in somebody elses shoes" experiment;
Think about this, You are living in a world full of "non-believers". No matter where u go there are our churches and temples on every street, people going door to door tryin to convert u to a different religion or faith, beatin u up cause u "havent found truth", blamin u for mis-happens and mayhem, wearin our religious symbols freely while u have to hide urs, have laws made against ur faiths beliefs, and bein called "evil" everywhere u turn. How would u feel? Do u think its such a happy and peaceful place?Yeah, i thought not...
Opinions anyone?Comments?

Where do you live that you have to hide your religious symbols? I'm a Christian and I'm strong in my faith. I welcome friends of all religions because I'm not one to judge anyone. My religion teaches that God is the one who judges and I'm not God. I don't think anyone is evil because of their religion, or lack there of. Yes, some people are radical and crazy, but that happens in every religion. There are crazy atheists, crazy Christians, crazy Jews, etc. Christianity teaches us how to treat people with respect, love, and warmth. If people are calling you evil or making you feel badly because you're of a different religion than they are not practicing good religion because I don't know of any religion that teaches someone how to be hateful.

While reading the answers so far, I must admit that there have been some very good points made....and Earl with his statistics.
The answer to the question and the solution to the problem is Tolerance!
Everyone preaches and teaches love and tolerance, respect and common courtesy, but c'mon now.....how many actually put it into practice on a daily basis?
Especially since we are all human, and fallible beings, we are all subject to "falling short of the chosen mark"...we as a race tend to be very hypocritical. And it is just not one race, religion, or sexual persuasion.....
I think that the point you are trying to make is that it would be best if we could all experience a little bit more "empathy" and respect of others and their spiritual beliefs.
I believe that all beliefs and spiritual traditions have been persecuted in one form or another in the past.....
I do believe that the only things that pagans have against christianity as a whole, is that they believe their way to be the only way. But we tolerate them anyway. Why is this?
Just because your beliefs differ from mine, does not make either belief and less or any more valid.
Walk lightly young one and speak softly....wisdom comes with life experience.....
Blessings and Love

First we are living in a world full of believers. 68% of the World believe in a DIETY
Maybe not the same diety, but they believe.
So we are a majority.
85% of the world believes in a RELIGION or NEO RELIGIOUS belief system (that includes Buddhists)
5-8% are DECLARED atheists
The rest say "none of your business"
How does that one grab you and statistically I am on sound ground.
Hindus, Muslims, Catholics, Protestants make up 4 BILLION+ of the worlds 6 billion
There are some diestic element that add to this.
Less than 1 billion say NOTHING or DECLARE themselves a non believer
LESS than 1 billion out of 6 billion.
And some of those might be believers, they just stand on the right to say
NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS
Now, if we get very LIBERAL
Muslims and Christians
The ABRAHAMIC GOD makes up 55-60+% of the World
If we had a vote today, you'd be in trouble
Live with it!
That's you're reality
And the "non-believer" doesn't always stand together.
Buddhists may not STAND up with you
The may not stand up with US either
That's leaves you in an uncomfortable less than 10% of the world.
That's less than the estimated amount of Homosexuals in the world.
That's FAR less than the amount of SCIENTISTS who think Pluto is STILL a planet in percentage
That's also FAR less than the amount of SCIENTISTS who don't think MAN came from APE or CHIMP by percentage
Understand the EXTREMISTS make up over 1.5 BILLION and those people believe in ACTIVELY exterminating the non-believers who number less than half a billion.
That is 3 to 1 odds, possible 4 or even 5 to 1 odds
Don't anger these people. It's not healthy
The rest of us can't alwasy stop it
There is about 2 billioni of us that will stop it, but 2 billion against 1.5 billion is not good odds and we'll just sit back and hold our peace in most instances
Taht 2 billion who would stop it includes more than half the Christians, most of the Hindus and Buddhists.
I'll admit that's a sad statement for Christians, but one has to live with reality and statistics.

Laws against your faith? What law would that be? Wait! Are you in the U.S.?
Personally,I do understand. Although I've known the Lord since an early age, I spent my years away from Him. I remember what it was like , years ago, when you couldn't find anything but sermons on the radio on Sunday mornings.
Jehovah's Witnesses showed up at my door weekly. That is until I used their own bible to shut them up.
Been there, done that and I'm not sure it would have done any good to try to talk to me. The time wasn't right. When it was right, I came home.

Why must you try to "get the "open-minded" Christians to see our side of the story?"
They are set in their beliefs as we are. It will take more than an answer or two on Y!A to convert or open the minds (cos I don't really think they were opened to begin with) of Christians to our way of thought. There's a journey that needs to be experienced before they will go "yeah, I get it now".
I've seen it happen. It can take years. And on the inverse, those atheists who say they have converted were never atheists at all. They were agnostics. Why? Being an atheist is like losing your ignorance. You can never regain that ignorance and go back. It's impossible.

You are entitles to your beliefs just as much as Christians. Just a thought though- how many Christian were persecuted like you are being now for their beliefs years ago? and still now-a-days in some countries? If we all just respect each others opinions the world would be a better place. Peace

I don't get annoyed at any-ones presence on R & S. What does upset me is the bashing of people and their religious preference. I do understand what you are saying and I do understand how you feel. No one should force any type of religion down any one's throats or beat them over the head with any type of book. We all need to learn to treat each other with more respect and alot less judgement.

Smart Ash,
I thought you were leaving and not coming back? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At_ivI0CiQynF6FMWnRYb6Tty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20070718233247AAsjXD0
I'm Pagan, yet I don't feel the way you just described. I think a lot of it has to do with ones own attitude. If you take the victim mentality, the victim you shall be.

What exactly is your job, again?
I think you may need a little break for a while.....you just described how many people see religion and those that offer prejudice and bias under the guise of religion.....

Probably the reason you have failed in the past is the same reason you failed today. You have a hard time expressing yourself adequately to make your point. I am sorry that you are not happy. I think it is up to you to make yourself happy, don't expect others to do it for you. You should try praying to Jesus, only through him will you find true happiness.
Blessed be.... the name of the Lord.
