You say there is no such thing as god, or spirits, or anything like that. So then what's the point of all this?

My point is...if there is no point then why haven't I killed myself yet and ended it all?
Something stops me every time, there is something bigger out there. I want to know what your point of living is? Why are you here, dude? What is the the point of this ****** up journey they call life? No one seems to be able to answer me.

Do not assume that I am part of the Christian religion. I know the bible is a big book of s**t. There has to be a purpose, a reason, why?

The purpose of your life is what you make of it. It could be to do good things such as saving an endangered animal species or help the poor. It could be for something as mundane as sports. Hell your purpose can even be for bad stuff like drugs. If you think there needs to be an invisible skydaddy for this life to have purpose then I feel for you. And if you haven't committed suicide because you scared of the invisible skydaddy then I'm even more scared for you.

I'm imagining that there are many things that you enjoy in life. I don't know about you specifically, but many people enjoy others' company, art, nature, accomplishing things, and combinations of these and myriad other things.

The only point is what you make of it. I imagine that you eschew suicide because you don't want to miss out on the next experience. Your internal drive to survive, to continue, born from a billion years of fighting to live, doesn't give up so easily.

Why does a dog fight to survive, a bug, a frog? They don't commit suicide simply because they have no belief in a higher power. They don't even have the language to consider the possibility. However, they will do just about anything to continue on to the next day. It's a new possibility that we've yet to experience.

God is imaginary and Christianity is simply copy of older more ancient religions.
"Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity's weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans."

I'm beginning to get a little tired of this attitude among believers, that without their gods life is meaningless. All it does is prevent people from living to their fullest potential, because they're getting ready for their "afterlife." What a waste. It's time for these folks to understand a purposeful life is possible without mythology. I've been a nurse for over 30 years. I've been an atheist for longer than that. My "purpose" in life is what I have made it, and I feel no need to justify myself to any of the believers.

There doesn't have to be a point. What's the point of birds, bears, and kangaroos. They don't sit around wondering why they haven't killed themselves yet. They go out and live their lives, do the things common to their species. All mammals, including humans posess the self-preservation instinct.

I think you are just going through your "what's the meaning of life" phase. It's pretty common among humans, and soon it will become apparent to you that you have to make your life have meaning, to you--not a mythological god or a spirit.

The point simply is, that through an accident of birth, you are here. The only point is to make the most of your life while you are here because that's all there is. The rest was all made up. I would assume that you haven't taken your life because you actually like being alive. Self-preservation is a strong drive.

"For you people who believe in nongod things?"

That's a statement, not a question.

"So then what's the point of all this?"

What do you mean by 'this'? The Religion & Spirituality forum? The universe? Existence?

I'll take a wild guess and assume you mean the world. The point of the world is to live a long and happy life and then die contented...

There isn't a point.

What's your point?

------------

So you have an instinct for self preservation. Nature would select strongly against life that didn't have such an instinct.

Your wish to live is insufficient evidence for a point, let alone a deity.

I'm here for one reason and one reason only -- my parents got together, had sex, and conceived.

That's the only reason I'm alive.

--------------

There is no purpose.

The point of life is to survive and reproduce.

Really, your bible is nothing more than a handbook on how to do just that - except it was written for illiterate goat-herders in the year zero.

That's your problem - you immediately assign a meaning to life.

There is no meaning to life. We exist simply because we exist. We have no purpose other than to propagate the species. At least the bible got that right - we procreate to continue life.

So, whatever meaning you give to this existence, it's a valid one as there isn't one single meaning we can apply to life.
