im 16 right now, but i want to eventually get a 3/4 sleeve. i know i have a while to think about it, but i dont know if i want to get a scene of something going the whole way down or a bunch of different things and then connect them somehow. I was thinking that if i got a scene it would be of a swamp since im from louisiana. i would get it to look like a nice sunny day and would want it to look basically like a photograph.

if i didnt get that, i have a few things i would want to get, like a portrait of a wolf, and a cross, and few other things, but i dont know if id be able to incorporate all those things and make it look good :(

can you give me some advice on what you think looks better on sleeves, or if you have any suggestions or anything? id really appreciate it!

If you know you eventually want to have sleeve, then you need to give your artist as many references as possible & a list of what things you'd like included in your tattoo. It is alot better if the artist comes up with the entire design, so that when you get it, it will flow corectly, and so that everything will be included how you want it from the get go. Otherwise trying to piece everything in bit by bit will cause confusion in the piece, and will look like you were adding random things at different times. Now no artist is going to expect you to sit for 10+ hours to have a sleeve done all at once, but with the finished drawing complete, your artist can map out where all the lines are so that the tattoo can be done in sessions while still looking complete.Too bad I closed up my tattoo studio in Louisiana, I would have loved to do your bayou sleeve! I d have stuck an aligator in there ! : )

Honestly it is up to you and you are right you do have a lot of time still. So take advantage of the time you have and start collecting images of sleeve you like and ideas that you want to express in the tattoo. The more time you spend find resrouces, designs and ideas the better off you will like your tattoo in the end.

You can start by working on some rough sketches and collecting photos of tattoos you like. Typically a good place to start are things that are meaningful to you. Since you mentioned being from Louisiana and the swamp idea you might want to develop that more. It sounds like something really unique and something that holds significance to you. In the end you will take all of your ideas, photos and thoughts and have a professional tattoo artist design the whole thing. But as stated before the more you can give someone to work with the better the tattoo will look. You are still young but it doesn't hurt to start some design ideas and also look for a tattoo artist that you connect with and one that will listen to your ideas.

As for doing it as pieces or all one shot it really is up to you. Typically however the artist has a lot more freedom if you desing the whole tattoo at one time. You can then get pieces done over time if you want. Be prepared to sit for a good number of hours between 10 to 20 and pay between $500 and up to $2000 for the design.

i would suggest one cohesive piece rather than a lot of things that are all jumbled together. my tattoo artist did a swamp scene on someone (i live in louisiana as well) i think the tattoo is on his myspace slideshow. http://www.myspace.com/jctattoos
