Yes they do. Protestants claim the Church became pagan after the council of Nice. (314 AD)
Jesus said:
"thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18, KJV)
"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me" (John 17:20-23, KJV)
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:19-20, KJV).
Jesus established only one church, the one He founded on Peter, the rock. He prayed that all His followers would be one, and He promised that He would be with His Church until the end of the world. This was recognized by Saint Paul when he wrote:
"Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit -- just as you were called to one hope when you were called -- one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:3-6, NIV).
One faith means one set of beliefs, one set of doctrines; doctrines which never change. There is only one Catholic Church but there are over 26,000 Protestant denominations today; each separated from the other by differing doctrines. Each of these denominations can be traced back to a single individual who was not Saint Peter or one of the apostles.
Every Christian church possesses some of the truths revealed by our Lord but only the Catholic Church can trace its origins all the way back to Jesus and Saint Peter through the rite of ordination; the laying on of hands and passing on of episcopal responsibility and authority. Because only the Catholic Church can be traced all the way back to Jesus, only the Catholic Church can be said to possess all the revealed truth. After all, Jesus founded the Church, promised that the gates of hell would not prevail against it (which means that it would be perpetual and not teach error), and promised to be with it until the end of time. Not at the end of time, but continually until the end of time. Either the Catholic Church was and is the one true Church, or the Bible is wrong, or Jesus lied.

apparently Protestants think they know better than the Holy Spirit. to say that the Catholic Church is being guided by an evil spirit is a sin against the Holy Spirit, and it is an unforgivable sin. Protestants should be aware of that.

Do you really think the church was guided by the Holy Spirit the whole time? If so, how do you account for all the evil done in the name of God?

There has constantly been sin, suffering and injustice interior the Catholic Church, yet it maintains to thrive after 2000 years. There has additionally constantly been saintliness and scholarship interior the Church. that's a genuine sign that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are with the Church, as Jesus promised.

I am protestant or more specifically methodist. How could the Holy Spirit be wrong in leading Christians...Catholocism is a denomination of Christianity just as Methodistism and Lutheranism are. And FYI to whoever said that about infant baptism, it most definitely is in the bible. Everyone is born sinful, and the Bible says the wages of sin is death but those who believe and were baptized will have eternal life. Do you honestly think Jesus would say "well wait till your kid gets a little older to baptize him, if he dies no biggy he'll just be spending eternity in hell" becuase i definitely don't think that is that case.

I do not bring peace, but a Sword.
I would think that Sword is the Sword of Truth, but I think it was the Sword of Division. He wants to see who will stand fast, and who will realize their folly. However, the Holy Spirit causes the rain to fall on all, and the sun to shine on the most reprehensible of us.
It was a prophecy, and it is fulfilled.
We seek oneness, but all around us is ennui and strife.
We lost sight of what is important.
Let the Protestants say and believe what they want.
We live in a transitory world.
Let God speak to their hearts, not us.

No. They believe that it wasn't the Holy Spirit. They believe it was the lust for money and power that was guiding the Catholics.

The catholics were misguided by the devil but not the Holy Spirit of God. Their heart and mind was blocked by the evil spirit and successful in guiding them (catholics) to the wrong path.

Well selling indulgences, meaning the rich can buy their way out of sin while the poor must suffer in purgatory, I'd put in the wrong category.
The Crusades, not terribly right.
The inquisition wasn't too Christian in my book.
Galileo was apparently a heretic for saying the earth was not the center of the Universe, (I think he got a speedy apology in only 400 years)
The Church's consent of the Slave trade, seems a little misguided.
The Churches cover up of child molesting priest, doesn't seem to divinely guided.
In short, religions are based on man, not God, the only real way of knowing God's will is to search your own soul and try to figure out what he (actually it, I don't think God actually has a gender) wants you to do. Basing all your decisions solely on what other people say is right leads to a lot of trouble.
