how do you react or how would you react if you told a Christian (either you knew it or not) about a problem that you were facing and their main response would be that they would pray for you?

Wow, some atheists here are down right nice or thoughtful or gracious.

Advice is often cheap. Dear Abby doesn't always get things right.

Prayer is at least thinking about your friend and their problems and hoping something will come along to make things better for them.

I depends on the tone... in some way, from a friend, it could be taken as a kind gesture, but at the same time it could be taken as a brush-off. Like they'll do that, but forget any real offer to help in any way that might take effort and make a difference right now. It's could sound like people are taking the route of the least amount of effort to show they care.

I'd feel a little disheartened and a bit annoyed. Personally, I'd like to hear more of their support besides the praying for me stuff. I had a similiar response when a friend of mine was in a car accident. This one lady said "pray to Jesus, he makes everything right" or something of that effect.

To each his/her own.

Indifference.

I wouldn't care. Its the thought that counts, even if the gift was useless. One of my friends is a Christian, and she's said that a couple times. It doesn't matter to me.

I would say...Duh! and then leave.

This usually leaves them mildly confused and gives me a chuckle and a small sense of satisfaction without starting a big thing about it.

I've had it happen. I just say thanks and say I'm an atheist, but if they think it will help to go right ahead. It hurts me none and it's not offensive to them. They can spend their time as they like, and the intent of kindness is there.

suit yourself it's your time wasted not mine . I can't really appreciate it in comparison to real action that can make a difference but who can tell the well wishers?

No reaction. Besides, I'd tell nobody about major problems.

At least they're showing that they care. I'd just thank them and be on my way.

If they start preaching to me, I'd just think they're loonies, but otherwise I don't mind.
