I am working on my hours for licensure. I think I want to work in a faith-based agency, but want to hear some ideas beforehand.

I am a certified Christian Counselor. I use laying on of hands as my most effective therapy. If they are really having problems, I use the "happy ending" technique.

scotgirl: The key thing is to find and employ a competent therapist. Some therapists get a "C"on his or her final examination papers and some get an "A". If you are a Christian and feel more at ease with a qualified Christian therapist, then search one out. I went to a therapist (non-christian one) a number of years ago and she was just wonderful. After addressing the psychological problems I had, she finished by telling me these words. "You are beyond any human help ... only God can help you " ! I was amazed, that she even, brought God, into the answer. Now; I see what she meant. She could give me the physical answers and help but only God could supply the actual healing ... and He did !!! God sometimes, uses therapists to help remove what's in the way of our spiritual growth and keeps us spiritually, immature. Good luck to you ... and pursue therapy if you need it !!!

As an Atheist counselor, I find that the Cognitive Behavioral approach is best, and is supported by verifiable statistical outcomes.. But it is important to remain eclectic. Existential and Reality are also good theoretical approaches.
