you guys said i dont deserve my dog and the im neglecting it??

actually i only leavin in the backyard for 4 hours and hes not on a leash, when i come home from school i let him inside and he jumps on me and hes happy, but then after i play with him he stands near the front door because he wants to go out. i try to play with him more but he goes back to the front door. somtimes when my mom opens the door he runs out and after like 1 hour he returns or i go and look for him and when he see's me he runs towards me and when i put him on a leash he bites on it on rips it, thats why i leave him with no leash in the backyard. i do walk him about every 2 days.

If he is running out the front door and you look for him after 1 hour, or allow him to run the neighbourhood for at least an hour.. Then yes you are neglecting the dog. He is now allowed to be running free, not allowed to be off leash in public.. You are allowing him to either be at risk of being hurt by someone or something, or you are at risk of him injuring someone and having them sue you.

I have a miniature pincher. Is that the same kind of dog? Anyway, my dog does the same thing too. When i give him a walk, he jumps and chews on the leash. When the door opens he somehow wiggles his way through and runs away. He doesn't come home for an hour. He practically does everything that your dog seems to do. He even sits by the door and whines to be let out in the front. In our back ward he digs his way under the fence to. No matter what i do he keeps running away. I even try to say "BAD DOG" or tie him up in the back and it still doesn't work. My mom has suggested obidience school. Not sure if it is going to work though.

Is the dog in the backyard for this hour long venture? Or is he out running the neighborhood?
I hope that you are only allowing him in the front when he is being supervised or at least on a leash. As a dog owner, I would not leave my dogs in the backyard for 4 hours, that is too long and there is too many things that your dog could get into. Dogs get bored and go looking for things to get into. I am no dog expert, and I'm not trying to be. As far as the front door, he is a little escape artist. Try this. Everytime you go out the front door, put his leash on. He will learn after a while that front door=leash, back door=no leash. But you have to be consistant.

You should walk your dog for twenty minutes a day every day, especially large dogs. I don't think your neglecting your dog, and I'm sure you deserve him. He is not outside or alone, it seems, for an unreasonable amount of time. About the whole leash thing...It sounds like he needs a little obediance school. Make sure, also, that he know the only way he's getting out the front door is if he's behaving himself and on a leash.

You shouldn't have got a dog at all if you are not going to keep it inside and allow it to become part of the family. Small dogs are companion dogs. I doubt very much if this dog is used to living outside. Why did your mum let you get a dog if she won't allow it in the house? Its really unkind.

Don't let the comments bother you. My dog could beoutside 5 minutes if we go out and come back she will whine to come it. Your dog just wants to be with you. Then when you let him in he's decided he wants to go out. Go figure!

Don't stress about it, being outside for a few hours is good for him! As long as you are giving him plenty of attention food water etc, he'll be fine!

One more note, dogs bite the leash to try to let you know that they are in control. This is not good because you are the one that should be in control. You may want to try obedience classes for this behavior. When you do walk him, don't let him bit the leash. As far as the running out the door, stuff happens. My dog tries to sneak out too and then she will take off and I have to go look for her. Just be more careful, it doesn't sound like you are neglecting him to me.

Letting him run loose is really not a good idea. He could get hit by a car, picked up by animal control, attacked by another dog, etc.

It sounds like you have a young, untrained dog who is not getting enough exercise or mental stimulation. He needs to be walked *every* day, not "about every 2 days", and he needs to learn how to walk nicely on a leash, among other things.

Check with your vet or a local shelter for information on training classes.

The poor thing is lonely, does it have a dog house, plenty of toys rawhide,a pig ear hid in the yard somewhere, maybe a recorder of your family talking a bit of classical music,a tic toc clock things that will make him feel not alone,a special blankie that smells like you, shade water fresh food everyday.I know he probably has most of these things but the more the better, also make sure the yard is clean from poo, hope this was a bit of help....:)...Oh and have you thaught of maybe a doggie door?

Let me tell you dogs are funny animals. My dog wines and cries to eat, yeah.
I leave his bowl of dog food on the floor and he cries til I tell him to go ahead and eat. We do this a few times a day. So dogs are
a fickle animal. With strange habits. I am not sure why he got in this habit.
So your dog wines in the backyard?
