No. Freemasonry is a social fraternity that studies morality through symbol, ritual and allegory and provides more charity than any other organization in the world in terms of free hospitals, schools, youth and retirements homes, etc.
The USA was founded on freemason principles and most of the leaders in the revolutionary war were freemasons.
to some other responses:
* www.tiem.net is a site put out by anti-masons, the actual site is http://www.tlem.net/freemasonry.htm it as all anti-mason sites is full of misrepresentations and untruths about freemasonry. please also check out some actual masonic site www.freemason.org www.phoenixmasonry.org
* saying freemasonry and cannibalism are in the same category is ludricrous and shows you know nothing of freemasonry
* yes, leard all you can before joining, from masonic sites, anti-masonic sites alike, and also check out masonicinfo.com as it has lots of responses to anti-mason points; all of the satanic, new world order/domination claims of anti-masons are lies.
* freemasonry is not a secret society, all masonic texts are published and in the library of congress and you can find many online for free (phoenixmasonry.org), at eBay and Amazon.
* i don't see how any rational person could go through any portion of freemasonry and say it doesn't line up with their Christian beliefs... the only people i have ever dealt with that think along those lines are Christians who refuse to accept that anyone else could have a belief system other than there own, and anyone who does is lying to themselves with their false beliefs and is condemned to hell. that is irrational and un-Christian. there is nothing in freemasonry that goes against any religious belief, freemasonry is NOT a religious organization, it does not teach/preach or offer salvation or heaven, etc.
****************
to the point below - freemasonry does not ask, nor require you, to deny anything... people should try to stick to what they know not what they "heard"...

Becoming a Freemason is not necessarily a guaranteed path to salvation by the simple virtue of becoming a Mason (it will take good men and make them better), but it is certainly not a path to damnation. It builds character, promotes brotherly fraternity and focuses on charitable care to those in need.
You will get out of it what you put into it.
The amount of time you will need to commit can vary - I would inquire at your local lodge - the Master Masons there will be very frank about how much effort it will require - the last thing they want is to bring in someone that would suffer an undue burden due to time or financial strains.
I put it off for too long in my opinion - trying to get the timing "right" - I don't have regrets, just compared to what I've been doing the past few years, I would have derived more satisfaction as a active Brother in the Lodge.

I can't take your question very seriously. You know absolutely nothing about Freemasons, yet you say "an instructor" has told you to wait. Hogwash. I do not doubt that a Freemason would tell you to be sure of your beliefs and commitments before joining...I doubt that you have an "instructor" at all. The answer to your question is absolutely no, you will not go to hell if you become a Freemason, but it might help you find the spiritual guidance that will save your soul. I will tell you right now, there are no finer men on the face of the earth than members of the Masonic Order.

noooooooo.. Freemasonry dates back to b4 George Washington, he among many was a mason.
I know that to become a mason, you must belive in god, along with a lot more.
What I would suggest is you go to a few of the dinners, and Instulations, and research before you join, for those you do not have to be a member.
Have fun, good luck.

I don't know anything about freemasonry but I recall having to sin to go to hell. I would think that as long as you don't engage in activities in the organization that you consider sinful your soul should be ok. It also sounds like they want you to be sure you want to join and don't go into it lightly on a whim. Find out what you can from you instructor and make a decision based on what you believe to be your path.

I assume you are asking about free masonry, the secret fraternal organization? There are those who reveal every "secret" they claim the free masons have, including "world domination." There are those who staunchly defend them as doers of only good in the world. I doubt if you will go to hell for joining, but I would pray about it and research it as much as possible before making a decision.

Do not involve yourself with secret society's that require oaths or allegiance. They deem the white apron as a sign of holiness. It's demonic stay away from it. Check into the history of Freemasons. You're spiritually linking yourself to their belief system. The fact that you're asking this question is proof enough that it's not quite right. Praying you listen to God on this, and not man.

No you will not. I went through the firs level and did not agree with the things it taught. It did not line up with my Christian beliefs so I stopped going. Research it fully before you make up your mind.
