Hello, I'm a high school student. I think I'm a nice person, but when I think about it, I don't think I make a big difference. I'm nice to people and friends at my school, but I'm not in any activities that help people such as volunteering at the hospital or anything. Are there any ways I can make differences in people's lives in everyday high school and life? Also, do you think being nice to someone can make their day? I want to make a difference.

Being nice to those with whom you interact is the single most effective thing that you can do to make a difference in the world every day, because you never see the big picture of how that affects them, and everyone else that they come into contact with.

However, if you want to make a difference by doing something extra in your community, you can always search on-line for the name of your city and the word volunteer to find lots of opportunities.

You can even make a difference by helping people on Yahoo Answers who have problems or questions!

I'm so glad to see a high schooler thinking about this sort of thing! I was volunteering a lot starting when I was about 14, but I was one of the few in my year who did. So good for you!

YES, being nice to someone (even a smile) can definitely make their day. Someone at school who is made fun of or bullied is probably pretty depressed and saying hi in the hallway can really make their day. Being mean to someone just so you can be popular is an awful way to live your life - popularity is only an issue in high school and then you will NEVER see these people again.

I was involved in Stream Keepers as well as the students against drinking driving program at my school. Outside I volunteered at a regular hospital as well as a children's hospital. Look at any volunteer clubs inside your school or try to find out about candy striping at a local hospital or even working at an SPCA.

Good for you for deciding to make a difference in this world. Very few people know that its the first step to really making a difference.
There are a lot of things you can do to make a difference. Starting with simple things. You can start out by making it a point to be positive everyday. Smile a lot. Be nice to people, even to those who aren't nice to you. When you're at school and you see trash lying around, pick it up and throw it in the garbage, stuff like that.. It doesn't have to be big, but small things like what I mention can influence other people more than you expect it. Good luck!

You could contact a local church, rotary or lions clubs. I know rotary does a lot with teens. As for being nice to people making their day I know getting a smile from someone first thing can make you feel good all day but giving a smile makes you feel even better then just keep passing it on.

Smiles are contagious - you could try something as simple as that & make a HUGE difference.
You could find inspirational quotes and stick them in random peoples lockers. Chances are, those who receive them are just the ones who needed them. It's funny how life works out that way.
