All throughout HS and college too I was always the "friend".. I get along exceptionally well with guys and spend most of my time as school with a group of guys. I'm not a tomboy and I'm not particularly assertive or anything. At most, I'm a little motherly and a subtle flirt.
but why am I always the "cool friend" and how can I change that perception?
How can I flirt and let someone know that i'm interetested in him w/o flat out telling him?
I'm not a little kid (I'm 28) I'm just exceptionally clueless

what's the next level? I tease, I compliment, I say "i only do these things for you" "this only cause I like you"
I dont' know what else to do.. how do I gradually increase the flirting?

Stop hanging out with the boys! At 28, most women want to do something other than hang with the guys...i.e. shop, get their nails done, hang out with their gal pals. Start pulling away from the guy stuff they like to do and do your own thing. In turn, find out if the one you like would enjoy a massage...take him to the spa with you and then the two of you have lunch afterwards....alone, away from the group. Divide and conquer! Good luck!

i just went through the same thing myself. I always had a good time going out with the guys. One guy was having total rebound issues and trying to take me on dates (the cant be alone type) but i liked our other friend and did some subtle flirting too like holding is arm and things but at one point i couldnt take and just told him i liked him and things worked out really good.
maybe your flirting should be less subtle see if he takes the bate then when you notice him nibbling real him!!!! Ask him to dinner or a movie things like that then if things seem they could go in that direction spill the beans and come clean but be sure to let him you would have him as a friend than nothing at all. Also try using the whole "i wanna take things slow" line guys seem to like lets them you arent looking to jump too far at once. Baby steps are key!

The legal adult age isn't 18 in the whole of the UK, it's 16 in Scotland. I don't think kids are growing up faster these days. Years ago, they had left school at 14 and were out earning a living. Many of them had to look after their brothers and sisters from a very young age, and were expected to do a lot around the house. They had to grow up very quickly.

I THINK YOU SHOULD START WEARING GIRLIER STUFF. WEAR CLOTHES WHICH DEFINE YOU. DON'T TOTALLY CHANGE YOUR STYLE, BUT KNOCK IT UP A BIT WITH PIZAZZ AND THE GUYS WILL BE IMPRESSED. THEY WILL START VIEWING YOU DIFFERENTLY. YOU ARE 28 SO BY ALL MEANS DO ANYTHING LEGAL. USUALLY FOR YOUNGER PEOPLE I WOULD TELL THEM NEVER WEAR MAKEUP BECAUSE IT RUINS YOUNGER PEOPLE'S SKIN, BUT YOU ARE OLDER THAN ENOUGH. RELAX BUT DON'T BE TOO GIRLY. THAT DOESN'T GO OFF WELL, YOU KNOW! AND ALSO TALK MORE TO THE GUYS IN A FLIRTISH MANNER. TWIST YOUR HAIR AROUND WHEN TALKING TO THEM ON YOUR FINGER, FLOUNCE ABOUT, WEAR MORE SKIRTS AND FLOUNCY DRESSES UPTO TO THE KNEE AT THE BOTTOM. TALK TO YOUR GIRLFRIENDS. THEY KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS STUFF THAN I DO AND YOU PROBABLY KNOW MORE TOO. GOOD LUCK! THIS IS A PROBLEM EVERY WOMAN FACES SO YOU'RE NOT ALONE JUST TO LET YOU KNOW!

you are right you are not a kid anymore. if you like someone
then you need to tell them how you feel without playing that
high school game.
